I read through, well possibly skimmed, the HD25 Appreciation Thread and saw that the HD650 and HD600 cables are recommended for recabling the HD25.

I want to end up with a better + longer cable with a 3.5mm plug at the end to use with my Karma/Hornet.

I found replacement cables at Strachan Electronics Sennheiser Headphone Cables, Leads and Adapters and wondered if any of the others there would be more suitable.

Is there any way of telling which cables for other Senn's are compatible with the HD25 - or any other for that matter?

The HD600 is the one terminated with a 3.5mm plug, right?

I don't know about the HD600 but the Senn HD580 cable can be used with the HD25. It is about 10ft (I think) and terminates with a 3.5mm plug. It can probably bought directly from Sennheiser USA. I haven't directly compared the cables but would assume that almost any cable would sound better than the one that comes with the HD25 since it is a steel cable. I don't really know anything about the cables at the location you mentioned.

Many 580 owners upgrade to the cables for the HD650 because the 580 cables are so flimsy, the hd650 cable is much more substantial. It does come with a 1/4 (6.75 mm?) plug but you can get a flexible adapter which works well for it. I would not get the 580 cables, I can't imagine them being an upgrade for anything. 650 cables definitely.

Another option the cables for the HD480s should have a 3.5mm plug and are sturdier then the 580 cables. But my first choice would be the HD650 cables with flexible adapter.

I don't know how many times I've posted the correct copper-cored cable to use with HD25-1 (at least 4x will turn up if the search function is used).......but here it is again http://www.thomann.de/gb/sennheiser_...rsatzkabel.htm

No matter what - you'll have to put on the mini-plug, if that is what you require.
SennheiserUSA does not handle, nor will they accept an order for this cable which is sold on HD25-13. Musikhaus Thomann is only one source - but they DO carry them and are one of the largest and reliable vendors in Europe.

Um sorry I'm in the UK and I was just trying to differentiate between the widely varying definitions for Sennheiser cables.

So the summary is buy your cable and source a Neutrik or Switchcraft 3.5mm right-angled plug for a suitable portable solution?

Anyway what about this approach? http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f4/hd2...ml#post2873678

...Or follow MatthewK's suggestion for an easy life?

Just go all the way (As I did) and order a Equinox cable already terminated with the 1/8" plug from Stefan Audio Art.
The HD25 sound great with this cable.
