I purchased the 13 600ohm version of the hd25 thinking it'll sound better amped Fiio E11 with an ipod and boy was in for a shock!
The mids are sooo veiled and muffled compared to my akg 301xtra that they are completely unlistenable. I can not longer return it. Is there anyway to lift the veiled?

I've just spend a bit more time. It's not so much the vocals that's veiled, it's more of when I'm listening to instrumental passages that it's very dark sounding and not very clear. Is this because it's under driven?

All good. As it turns out, the veil sound was only noticeable in one particular track.
