Sennheiser HD 660S2 thread

i hate the mixed feelings i have with both the s2 and the 109
i always go back to the s2 when i miss the buttering smooth treble and natural tuning. it is such a pleasure listening to.
the meze is a very fun headphone, but lacks when it comes to clarity the s2 have. also comfort is just like a warm soft pillow with the 109, wish i could eq the 109 to make them similar or better than the s2

for me the s2 don't even require eq, they are so smooth as they are

the s2 sound indeed what they coast, the 109 maybe not so.

The Meze pads are so nice and the headphone built so well and comfy. The tuning is a bit off relative to the s2.

It's easy to see why you have mixed feelings :p

Wonder if those Meze pads would work on the 6 series :) Probably not sound right... but never know... :D

Is there any closed back headphone, tonality wise closer to S2 or 650? Something around $600? S2 is my absolute favorite, now I need to find a closed back version of this. Any suggestions?

I don’t expect the 620S to outperform the S2 but if it can pull out more refinement from the driver than, say, the 58X (but with moar sub-bass), I’ll be stoked. And the S2 will have a really great brother in my collection.
My guess is it will actually be a closed 560s. Might they fudge the naming convention to get sales based on the goodwill associated with the 6xx series? I know, way off base....

This is veering off topic but I don’t think the chassis tells the whole story. For one thing, the 560S driver is 120 ohm. The 620S driver is 150 ohm like the 58X and 660S1. Also, I think Sennheiser has been consistent in how they talk about their recent releases. In the case of the 660S2, the marketing language was all about audiophiles and listening for enjoyment. I think it excels at that. With the 490 Pro (and 560s fwiw), it’s about professional use, mixing, etc. The sound of all these headphones aligns with the marketing, so we’ll see how they end up talking about this new one once it’s officially unveiled. A little odd we haven’t heard anything about this yet… the 620S might end up being a flawed closed-back, but I don’t think it’ll be because it sounds like a studio monitor when they said it was for music enjoyment, if that makes sense.

how is the s2 on the Fiio k9 compared to the k7?
or if i would want an upgrade, should i look somewhere else? i find the s2 very nice on the k7
it is natural sounding and the bass is surprising strong

660s in my opinion are way better than 58X ( but 58X has bit more sub bass to my ears) , Compared to S2 , S2 clearly are better than S1 , But s1 work better for gaming side by side to s2 , again in my opinion. U cant go wrong with 660s 1 or 2 .

I've asked similar questions in other threads, has anyone here compared the 660S2 with the 490 Pro and can report back?

These are so good. To my ears, they are clearly better than all previous 6X0 models. They sound very similar to the Atrium, which costs $2000 more.

I’m particularly surprised by the soundstage width. These do not present narrow like previous versions, at least not on my system. I’m really liking them.
The HD660S2 and Shure SRH1540 headphones are my favorites. I have tried Empyrean and they're still my favorites. I go balanced from Lotoo Paw Gold Touch.

Just managed to snag a pair off classifieds! The 660s were my first of the 600 series, coming from the Hifiman Arya V2 as a main. While I love the V2 their sibilance was too much, and I couldn't get them to agree with my head comfort wise. In hindsight, they're also quite thin in the midrange. The 660 as well as the Amiron Home I used to own showed me what I've been missing out on.

Looking forward to comparing between 660s1 and 660s2!

Wait for the HD 620S ?

Looking forward for user impressions. If it can retain the same treble as the S2 or 650 I am absolutely sold! Senn’s can’t go wrong with midrange imo
