...i heard the 109 pro are more musical focused, and have a treble which takes some time getting using to, or some just don't like it. the s2 are darker headphones for sure darker also both are very different sounding

...and the HD660S2 made me have a better appreciation for instrumentals...

The above quotes helped me realize what I feel is the key difference between the HD600 and the HD660S2. I think the HD600 specializes in vocals where the HD660S2 specializes in instruments. Neither is bad with the other specialty but I think they trade blows with each having its strong suit.

Therefore … take one of the HD600 earcups, put it in HD660S2, and vice versa. You will have two ‘mirror image’ headphones - great at instruments & at vocals …..

They were good, but not outstanding, to me. Nice headphone, but the S2 is nicer.

Have you tried implementing the older drivers into the newer metal screen baffles?

I don't think I'm imagining things, but there are subtle differences.

I did try baffle swapping, but that was more for clamp differences which obviously impacts sound. But then also the driver swapping (so the screen material is essentially changed)

Probably wouldn't mess with a new 660S2. But if one has an S2 .... and let's say also 660 and an older variant 600/580 with the paper or silk material ... (with the CC brass donut) ... etc.
