I will of course listen to them myself before I make my own conclusion, what I meant is that I'll pass if his review matches my own listening experience of them, but I became less hopeful after reading his review.
You never know though. You might find a reason to rationalize buying them 😁

Sound is indeed one’s preference but with all due respect, the 600 has always been and will be what it is, sound character wise. To hold it against what it is isn’t the best way of looking at it.
Think of it as putting yourself in the middle of a live session inside a studio, that what the 600 is. It’s still a specific tool at the end of the day and very good at it. That’s where and how the hd600 cult started. Timbre and proper stage is it’s line forte.
So is the HD600 mid range. It’s amongst the very best regardless of price. That was the main reason Tyll Hertsens still had it on his Innerfidelity Wall of Fame when he retired in 2018.

That is true, honestly back when I first started getting into this hobby around 2010ish. the HD 600 was considered among the best midrange. Only headphones such as the R10 and the Orpheus were truly considered to have a better midrange in those days. The headphone world has changed dramatically since then.

Will be grabbing these for my birthday, have had the 650’s for a long long time but only got the OG660 and 600’s in the past year. From impressions I’ve read sounds like they’ll be great!

Correct me if im wrong. He preferred the old Hifiman 400S ( not SE) over the sennheiser 600. That was very suprising.

HD 600 and HD 650 will stay

Purely theoretically, in terms of sound signature, the 660S2 is more an evolution of 600 or 650 ?

I own HD650 (bought it recently) and am wandering whether I should consider upgrading to HD660S2 or does it not make sense.

How quickly do folks believe the price will drop on these? I picked up the discounted 660s recently and have been really enjoying listening to them with my Ifi idsd Signature.

Interesting difference as the 800s seems to be relatively stable price wise.

For example, Sandu’s 660s2 review lists price under “cons” and I think he’s quite good at what he does.

It was $475 on the Canadian website for a while at least. That will be my target - let others pay the pre-order premium.

The market has a tendency to settle headphones at the price people are willing to pay for them… at least as far as Sennheisers are concerned. The HD800S for instance goes for a similar price to the HD820 on the used market even though the 820 came out a lot more expensive. The HD700 price also settled fairly lower than the initial release price.

Meanwhile, people still buy the hd650 (and 600) despite the HD6xx going for much lower.

Sennheiser also had done a decent job in the past of discontinuing or adjusting prices on headphones that they know have not quite hit hd600/650/800 status, examples again are the hd700 and hd820.

The pricing of the 660S2 definitely sends a message given what else can be found in that price range new and used.

I do love the fact that Sennheiser seems to be shooting for legendary and if the market says no, they move on.

With everything that is available on the market now, it looks like Sennheiser figured they could make the 660s more competitive so we are getting a V2. That is a good thing and if this thing comes out and starts trading blow with say a focal Clear then I would say the price is not too bad at all.
