Sennheiser HD 600 (closed alternative?)

Hey Jellofund, your original post is now overwritten? Anyhow, I have listened to both the German Maestro GMP 450 PRO as well as the 8.35D's and I found the GMP 450 much more comfortable to wear, plus it has the larger shells standard from the box, which is a plus. And in my opinion the sound signature of the GMP 450 is even closer to the HD600 than the 8.35D's, plus, the GMP 450's are 300 ohm so they shine with a tube amp, just like the HD600.
And what surprised me, as mentioned, is that they don't even sound awful without an amp. So an option for traveling too.
I would however not replace my HD600 with it, the HD600's are definite keepers..!

I got the opportunity to have an extensive listening session to the Shure SRH1840 and its sibling the SRH1540. The latter are closed cans and... Wow! I own both the HD600 and HD650 (impossible to decide between the two which one is the keeper) and swear by them. But the SRH1540 are the first closed cans that have such an impressive soundstage and they really sound wonderful and so forgiving some music I never listen to on the Senn's is worth listening to again. If you're looking for closed alternatives, I would definitively have a listen to the SRH1540!

I picked up the Audeze EL-8 closed as a companion for my HD600. I don't miss HD600 soundstage with them its nearly if not as good. I find them to be more detailed than the HD600. I never thought I would say it but I might even like them better.
