I absolutely love the look of my HD598s. I've been calling them my 'classy old gentleman cans' lol. I've even seriously considered taking up smoking cigars and drinking scotch to match the classiness of these headphones.

how about hearing classic female vocals instead...It's possibly one of the best headphones there is for female vocals!

I enjoy these songs...not exactly classic...maybe

taking chances - celine dion
all by myself - celine dion
listen - beyonce

I agree with you. It's up there with the K601, HD-580 and DJ100 for female vocals. The ATH-AD2000 was pretty good too for them. I'll have to admit too that the Q701 is much improved for vocals over the K702. Not quite as up-front as they should be (in the recording) but still better than the K702.

I love the HD-598 for female vocals sound in Cantopop/Jpop. Utada Hikaru is especially good on the 598. Some of her music is harsh and fatiguing though..not so much on the 598.

Is the poll locked? I can't tell.

I really want to try out the K601. Do you prefer those over your Q701s?

Hi,

NimbleTurtle, I preferred the K601 to the HD595 and HD598 by a long shot. The sound is fun and musical with excellent bass. I think the K701 and Q701 are superior performers, but the K601 has an excellent signature that can't be replicated.

That's excellent Zombie. I personally did not like the Q701 due to its lack of bass quantity (good extension though), thin midrange, distant soundstage, etc. The K601 seems like an improvement over the Q701 according to your description. I would love to try them out.

I think they look above average, but they seem rather flimsy. But I guess that comes with being essentially weightless which I love. These headphones are just the best. Not going to upgrade until the hd 700/800

i wish the HD558's black/w silver look would fuse with the HD598's sound and metal grill...

Kinda wish the earpads had a reddish tint to them. That would've made them look nicer.

I think in general younger people find the HD598 to be more attractive than older people. To older people, it is probably just reminiscent of some ancient technology: http://steveffisher.files.wordpress.com/2011/03/computer-whiz_4402.jpg?w=593. Based on reviews and real life encounters, it seems in general that youngsters love the look of these cans - even in real life.
