So MD had the HD579 up right now for $99, i'm trying to decide if i should get in on this or not....

as it stands I've never heard a set of Sennheisers before and am wanting to pick up a set so i can see what Sennheisers typically sound like in general, i'm wondering if you're trying to get a feel for Sennhiser in general is the HD579 a good place to start or should i go right into the insanely popular HD600 series? What's the difference?

i cannot for the life of me find any comparisons between the 579 and anything in the 600 series....only the HD598's vs the 600's.... how far off from the famous Sennheiser sound am i going to be with this $100 investment?

I'd say a hundred bucks is a good price but I haven't been keeping up to date on any models below the 598. If you're not planning on getting an amp, don't bother with the investment on the 600/650. They'll play music out of a computer soundcard but you'll be paying ~$300 for 150-dollar sound. They sound much better with an amp is essentiallt what im getting at

Long story short, the 600 line is miles better than the 500 line. I don't think the 500 line represents any of the more expensive models very well. They all share the laid back sound, but once you hit the 600, sound quality jumps way up. Honestly if you don't have a good gaming headphone, get the 579 anyway cause those would be better than whatever Razer or Turtle Beach crap people think is amazing

The 300-Ohm Sennheiser HD600 needs to be used with a decent headphone amplifier to sound their best.
Where as the 50-Ohm Sennheiser HD579 can work decently plugged into a mp3 player or smart phone.
I own the HD558 (50-Ohm) and it's the oldest headphones I have that I still like to use.

Honestly 300ohm hd650 isn't that hard to drive. Top of the line mobile phone would power them and still sound better than hd579.

Invest in the 600, and pickup a higher quality amp/Dac ltr.

If you want to upgrade your dac or amp in the future, I highly suggest that you get the HD6X0 series. But, if you decide to use phone or straight from PC as your main source, HD579 is great for its price.

Definitely the HD579 is a good headphones though I haven't heard it myself though I'm familiar with the HD555 and HD598 platform these are built on.

You may even prefer the sound signature of the 579 over the 600. So if price is a factor, or you aren't too sure but just want to get your feet wet the 579 is a good bet.

It also depends on what you are listening too and the quality of the recordings. What kind of music do you enjoy?

Is there a big sounds difference between the HD580 and HD579? If not is there a senns 500 line that comes close to the HD580? Thanks.
