Hello there.

I just picked up some fantastic Sennheiser HD 560 Ovation headphones for the bargain price of £20 at a car boot sale. Still boxed, look like they have never been used!

I always wanted these back in the day but had to make do with a set of HD 480s instead..

Anyway, my question is what's the difference between the Ovation and the Ovation II versions of the HD560? Apart from the minor aesthetic differences, they seem to have exactly the same specification.

Hello. Does anybody actually know the difference between the Sennheiser HD 560 Ovation and the HD 560 Ovation ii please? I have heard a few times now that the Ovation 1 is better than Ovation 2. I own 2 pairs of Ovation 1 headphones. One pair the drivers have a red plastic ring in the centre and the second pair the drivers have either white or grey plastic rings in the centre. Does this mean anything? I have only noticed these rings in the Ovation drivers and not in the 520, 530, 540 etc. Some information would be grateful. Thank you.

Do these headphones have the treble peak (+15dB) at 8kHz of the HD560 Ovation II ? That must render those headphones unlistenable.

correct. Do you know anything about these rings? I am guessing they play a small part in the base? I have 2 pairs of Ovation 1's, one pair for spare as back up but one of them has red rings in the centres of the drivers and the other pair has grey plastic rings but the holes in the centres of the grey rings is smaller than the red? I am going to side by side test them to see if there is any audible differences. I am guessing that the grey ring drivers are early examples? As Ovation ll's also have red rings in the centres of the drivers.

@chilltomusic.534054

I'm sure they are there as part of tuning ( probably bass considering it is the most influenced by air/excursion) , tightening the amount of air, so they could use the same 540 driver in another "body", more closed
For mids the foam is still there

Well support for the HD 560 Ovation II has finally ended. They no longer carry parts of any kind for it. I emailed them in 2021 and they had them. But now they don't and I'm gutted over it. I have one pair of unopened ear pads so that's something at least. But my cable has a short in it.
