About a week ago I bought a pair of hd 555 - and found out that their impedance was 50 ohms (on sennheiser.com it was 120 ohms then) - also SPL has changed, today they made a change in specification on their web site - can anyone tell something about differences between these two (in fact different) models. I don’t have access to the old model so I can’t compare them by myself

The sensitivity has also gone from 103db to 112. Sadly, the american website still lists the old specs/info, so who knows if this variant will ever show up here

Actually, the ENTIRE new HD5#5 series of headphones now have an impedance rating of 50 Ohms (in newer production models). In addition, the sensitivity rating went up - to 108 dB @ 1 kHz @ 1 Vrms (for the HD515) or 112 dB (for the HD555 and HD595).

I wonder if the fire gave them an opportunity to re-engineer these headphones. Don't know if this is good or bad... I suspect it will lead to an improvement, knowing the Germans. It probably has something to do with the new manufacturing process.

Interesting... I'll have to check the specs of my Made In China HD 595's when I get home from work, but I'm pretty sure they were 120ohms.

My Made In China HD 595's are 120 ohm, 104 dB.

This is not good, they should at least change the model name (add revision number or something).
And who will ever have a chance to compare them...

Somebody should contact Sennheiser to confirm the change.

My local reseller didn't notice the change either, but it is a fact. One thing that I didn't notice earlier - on 50 ohm version box there is no "china" sticker on "made in ireland" - does this mean sennheiser is leaving china?

Yes, the specs were changed as I kept the 'old specs' page on disc. Would be interesting to read comparative reviews on SQ. I thought 5x5 were only made in Ireland ?

Probably they are trying to appeal more to a portable user.

BTW,

104dB/1V for 120 Ohm = ~95 dB/mW

112dB/1V for 50 Ohm = ~99 dB/mW

It looks like 50 Ohm version did gain some real sensitivity as well ...

Today, I noticed that the HD 650 SPL is now 115dB (was 103dB). Twelve dB is a large change. I emailed Sennheiser.
