After getting used to Sennheiser HD650's comfort with a space in the middle of the foam on the headband, whenever I use any other headphone with a headband pressing on top of the head it feels very uncomfortable, esp. for long sessions.

Heres a quote from a HF user who had the same issue:
Quote:
As I'm typing this my Pro 900 has been on my noggin' non-stop for 3 hours (kids asleep, wife not home = win) and the only comfort issue is the pressure on top of my skull... Luckily, a german engieneer has solved that problem. He works for Sennheiser tho:

I'll order a replacement HD650 headband padding and slap it on the Pro900. Done, comfy cans for hours and hours on end...

As a side note- you can replace a HD600 headband with a HD650 headband and vice versa.

So heres how I modded my HD555 for better comfort

2 things you need:

1. Sennheiser HD600 headband 052715

2. double sided mounting tape like this one from scotch http://www.amazon.com/3M-114-DC-Mounting-50-Inch/dp/B00004Z4A8/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1329862713&sr=8-3

                                                          or tesa http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tesa-Mirror-Double-Sided-Mounting/dp/B0024NKDEO/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1329861611&sr=8-4

I cut out the 2 big foam parts in the middle of the HD600 foam and sticked them to the HD555 headband. With the mounting tape you can adjust them to your liking and change the positions as many times as you want. I found the best position to be when the 2 foam parts touch the outer wall where the default HD555 foam ends.

Now its amazing even for long gaming sessions! Its also a mic-mod on the HD555 but its not finished yet. Since HD 595 and 598 have that full leather headband, I dont know if this mod would work on them as well. Maybe if you can remove the leather thing. But it should work on the HD555 based headbands, so also for 515/518 and 558. Obviously it will also work with the PC 360

Hope it is useful to some of you.

Nice mod!  I'm sure it will help many HD500 series owners.

thank you guys

as you can see I also removed the foams behind the drivers and actually did the soundstage mod by cutting out the plastic behind the driver, its just a matter of the taste however. But I do think the sound became a little bit "fuller" after the soundstage mod. But again it is just a matter of preference. But I am really happy with the mod compared to the stock HD555 headband foam. I hope someone will give this a try and report back.

Great forum by the way. Very interesting and informative. :)

jackwess, is the PC350 "foam" replaceable at all? Cant find any info or pic on it. It might be possible to replace it for a HD650 foam, which should be way more comfortable than the stock PC350 foam.

Also if its replaceable you could still try the mod, the only question would be the width of the opening for the foam on the PC350. I really feel like going to sleep with the modded foam on the 555.
