I have an opportunity to buy a set consisting of a slighly used HD580 and a Sennheiser DSP-Pro. Most of my use for the headphones will be to play my XBox and watch movies. I have a new Onkyo 601 receiver, so I'm not certain that the headphone amp buit in will be sufficient to drive the headphones.

Does anyone have any experience with the DSP-Pro? If I don't plan on otherwise buying a headphone amp, and can get the pair for $150 or $160, should I? How decent a job in simulating the surround sound does this do?

The DSP-Pro is worth perhaps $25, if that. It's a fun toy to play with the surround sound modes, but it's sonically terrible. I'd recommend just about anything else if you want to use it for music. However, if the HD-580's that come with it are in good condition, the total price is a good deal. The HD-580 is a nice headphone, so you'll be ready when the time comes to buy a better amp.
