Senn HD490 headband pad question

I've seen a lot on gluing the Senn HD490 headband pad to the Grados. How thick is this pad? I just got my Alessandro MS-1's and want to try this. Not for comfort, but because the phones sit a little too low, even when adjusted to the smallest setting. This would give me some height.
