Got my SE530s and can confirm the start date is 29th Jan 2008, for 2008 at least. If I treat the first three digits as days after 28th Jan, then they tally to the dates on the boxes for both my SE310 and SE530 phones.

I just received my new replacement pair of SE530. The # is 0729. 72nd day of 2009.. so nice to have a soft cable again. I decided not to sell this pair. I can always buy another IEM later on and keep both.
