Screen name regret...

Jun 10, 2006 at 4:13 AM Post #61 of 82
I actually tried to change mine a few years ago.
I live in a small town, and too many people know me by this name. I feel my anonymity has been severely compromised.

Honestly, it doesn't seem to matter anymore. But I still wish I chosen something different, even though I gave this one some thought when I signed up here.

I like mine. As long as it remains my profession. Otherwise it wouldn't make much sense for me to use it anymore.

PS, could you get a name change like I've had / seen on other forums with vbulletin by the admins, and then create a thread saying you changed your name? (On head-fi)
One problem with a lot of screen names like mine are that people make crazy assumptions and try to relate it to things (in my case Jaguar), which ends up just being in an arguement and me angry because it's not that I cant' spell, it's just that my name isn't referring to a jaguar.

When I wanted to change my name here, I was discouraged from doing so.
I only remember one headfier changing his name. That was due to him being threatened with legal action by a big company because his screen name was the same as one of their products.

BTW, I never thought of JaGWIRE as Jaguar. I think of the tv show Jag when I see your name.

Or I see it as J agwire which would stand for something like Jonny ag(ricultural) wire which would be Jonny bailing wire

I love my name. It's a cross between my last name (hemberger) and the McDonald's Hamburgler. And so far, I've never found anyone else using it.

My name for CS and such is RealEyez, since it's: real eyes, real lies, and realize.

Well then, why are you so angry about being thought of as a Jaguar? If you actually were making a reference you could be annoyed with people who don't get it but if it means nothing then relax.

I have a friend who's been using misspelled and basically screwed up versions of Jaguar for years because of the classic shareware PC game "One Must Fall". Jaguar was the shiznit and he's been using it ever since. He can never get straight up Jaguar though so I've seen some pretty funny incarnations of the name.

Did you put a lot of thought into those names? I.E. sit down and think about something that would be funny?

I put a lot of thought into this and have no regrets, I use it everywhere unless I definitely don't want to be noticed...this isn't just a screen name for me though, it goes much deeper than that and actually has a 10 to 12 page meaning ad infitium, it's more personal and philosophical as well as symbolic, in fact there is also a symbolic form of my 'screen name' that I've conjured up and may get it as a tatt down the road...and being that it is personal like I've mentioned, you'd pretty much have to really get to know me to understand and get the full flat out meaning, which in it and of itself is somewhat hard to do...so yeah that's a little somethin somethin, definitely not your average...I'd also agree with mr.pd it kinda takes my anon. status away too imo because of the fact it is personal, so I just give minimal hints here and there and never explain it in full on a public forum

I've always like the name Skullguise, which is the last name of a lady vampire in a series of books by Brian Lumley. Few if anyone know it is actually a female's name.

I happen to like it a lot for Head-Fi, too, because people see the "skull" portion and have PM'd me thinking it's headphone-related.

Head-Fi was the second place I used this in relation to usernames, emails, etc.
