THis is awful! Just when I had decided to pull the trigger on a Mac 18
I might have to get some little 50 ml bottles....


Today Trader Joe's got in a big bunch of TJ bottled Macallan 10 for $19.99 to go with their Aberlour 10 at $12.99. Has anyone tried it?

OK, check this out. Apparently they just went and blew a lot of "pounds" to get a new designer label for the bottles! It is obviously a stupid scam to raise prices instead. Dorkuses! Hoot man.

The liquor store near my office has the Mac 18 for $90. If anyone "needs" a bottle it could be shipped from NJ post haste

$90 is a good price for a bottle of 18yr Macallan. It currently runs about $120 down here. I think I paid about $100 for two of my 18yr Macallan, vintage 1984.

Tried the Coal Illa again, just to make certain it was as good as I thought initially. Yep, it is. Really great stuff and a great bargain.

Johnnie Walker Gold: I got a 50ml minibottle. This blend is dominated by Highland malts. It noses like the Dalwhinnie 15 with lots of light flowers, grass, and malt. But the finish doesn't have even the slight smokiness that the Dalwhinnie does--it stays with malt and fruit, rather like the Glenlivet 12, but not so much fruit.
And like the Glenmorangies, is a bit sharp without water, but just a couple of teaspoons makes it super-smooth: "buttery" as Tyson put it.
Something weird: the first few sips, I get a strong herbal note in the middle--parsley? But I can't pick it up at all by the time the dram is half gone!

That bottle of Macallan 18 I got was the 1986 "vintage". This seems a little heavier on the sherry than I remembered, but it is still very smooth and complex. Almost like a dessert!

talisker 12: SO MUCH PEAT, almost lagavulin ish but not nearly as refined... and much peatier to me.


Glenmorangie (i forget the name sort of something word) port wood 12.

Much more like dalmore 12, sweet and almost fruity finish, very sugary. Smooth.

Kinda boring though.


Glenlivet 12: I wasn't really impressed at all. Very boring, but smooth. Reminds me of macalan 12 sort of. Nothing to great to me.


My favorite ATM, is still believe it or not, macalan cask strength.

No one likes it like i do, my dad hated it cuz it was so strong. I love the spice and fire! Amazing taste that lingers too.

I like the Mac Cask at least as well as the Mac 18, and that's saying something. You should also try the Aberlour A'bunah it is very similar to the Mac Cask, but even more intense.
