Truly outstanding tube and a testament to 60's commie rooskie pinko vacuum tube technology.

What was the considered final verdict about the 6N26P being nominally at the outer limit of the current draw of the Vali 3 and individual tubes may exceed that by some margin ?

I did not hear anything with the 26P that stood out as better than my WE396A and, considering the less than perfect compatibility, I gave up using the 26P and went back to the WE.

It seems logical to stick with tubes that are electrically compatible.

Am I being over cautious ?

Some examples can draw more than 600mA, yes. I have one, that makes me wee Vali very hot indeed.

Soviet-era thermionic specs are more of a rough guideline than absolute values. In many of their designs, they tend to make up for limited design/manufacturing finesse with higher current draw for heaters, as more electrons boiling off can provide more electrons for more performance.

Your ears are your best guide. We are not good guides... we're the expensive guides - guiding you to find more ways to spend more money.

In the sub-500mA heater world, my favs are the toddler twins E86C/EC86, CV133, 6C4 and the big red EBC33s. Not that I'm suggesting you should spend money on a few adapters and more tubes. Nope. I'd only suggest spending more money on lots of adapters and lots more tubes. :joy:

Am I being over cautious ?
It's your comfort level. The Vali 3 is a substantial investment. If it was an inexpensive amp with limited rolling choices, one could throw caution to the heaters. Instead... we throw money to the tube vendors.

Mine also, but I bought 3 tubes, and so far I’ve only used one of them.
Mine too. I bought 4 6N26P's and I've only used one but it's cool as a cucumber in more ways than one. :sunglasses:

Isn't that one of the definitions of tube roller hell, listening to the same tube for 27 years?!

Although the good news is... very, very few of those Soviet-era tubes will make it anywhere near the 10K hour lifespan.

** if this is the case, why ask about being 'over-cautious'? Just enjoy! ☑️
