OK....JAN (joint army navy) tubes are more rugged versions of that tube. What about air force, coast guard tubes? 🤪🤣🤣🤣

Just listened to 10 12AU7 type tubes via an adapter with Vali 3.

A member loaned me these to try in my Vali 3.
All are nice, some are better and a few are really better!
The Amperex PQ7316 was stellar, the BRIMAR CV 4003 was great, The C1FTE was great, the rest go down the ladder of my
taste. The Pvane was the least favorite for my ears. The 12 AU7's and Vali 3 (and Vali 2+ for that matter) work very very well in this really expensive headphone amp!! lol ... Thanks to Tom for the loan!

I just ordered four 6N3P-EV Russian tubes from Ukraine for $23 including shipping (Go Ukraine!) so in 3 to 4 weeks I’ll let you know how they sound. Hope they sound great, the EV means extended range, or a step above the regular 6N3P.
Actually 2 steps up. 6N3P>6N3P-E>6N3P-EV>6N3P-DR
I have 4 of the EV that are from the Ukraine Oktyabr plant and they are much better than the stock tube.

OK, now that I have had some time with the JAN5654W I can give you my thoughts. First off for anyone else attempting these be aware they have a gain factor of 70. They are clear and detailed with a wide and fairly deep sound stage. $14 for the adapter and $4 each for the tubes. Not a bad price for this experiment. I will have to get a JAN5670 to compare.

Oh boy. I have a older Cifte that used to be in my Tube Integrated amp, preamp spot. It may be done though. Also have a Mullard cv4003 that I never got on with in my tube amp that should have plenty of life.

Going to have to get me an adapter and try them out.

I’m ashamed to say at this late date I’m just starting to get into tube rolling, but with this Schiit Vali 3 amp I just find this fascinating!
... better late than never! Vali 3 is a great little tube roll laboratory. What, so far, is your favourite?

That is the interesting thing. It seems the Vali 3 is the first Schiit tube hybrid to really benefit from rolling. It doesn't seem to have much affect on the 2, and I haven't heard of many really altering the Valhalla's sound via rolling.

• Valhalla 2 sound can be 'upped' if one uses 12AT7 / 12AU7 tubes with adapters in lieu of 6N1P / 6922 tubes. With the 6N6P tubes (back row) not much choice: Foton, Novosibirsk.
• Lyr 3 sound is definitely 'upped' with a pair of Ken-Rad 6C5 on @Deyan adapter (2x6C5 --> 6SN7).
• With Vali 3, much fun and satisfaction to be had from trying out different 5670s and 12AU7s (the latter, with adapters).

The RFT ECC82 is a great tube. Does yours have a 'halo' getter holder or a 'foil' getter holder? [P.S., I also use RFT ECC82 pair in Liquid Platinum: stunning!]
