Schiit Vali 3 : Impressions Thread

Lol keep in mind that:

12AU7 = 20 gain factor
12AT7 = 60 gain factor
12AX7 = 100 gain factor

Careful not to blow up anything. :joy:
Nothing has gone boom, and no magic smoke has been released. I am still searching for my 12AU7 tube(s). (Cant remember if I have 1 or 2).

I don't think anybody mentioned it yet, but did Schiit finally get that gawd-awful pop when you turn the amp on sorted out? I know with my V2 I don't dare put my headphones on until after I hear the relay click - probably shouldn't even have the cans plugged in TBH

Maybe with certain tubes?
Not a tube issue. I think it has to do with the muting circuit disengaging before the amp fully warms up - something along those lines anyway. I talked with a guy ages ago and he suggested that I could replace one of the internal caps with a bigger value - lengthen the time it takes before the relay kicks. With all the SMD components in the Vali, that's above my pay grade, unfortunately

Not a tube issue.... from ECC82s thru to 7A4s in my Vali 2+. The hideous turn-on pop-boom is immutable. Plugging in phones after warmup still generates a nasty pop, which makes a cap swap for a larger value a dubious adventure at best. I've learned to never turn off my Vali. Or turn it on when connected to pricey phones.

If Vali 3 resolves this thumping loud issue, might be willing to chance the substantial investment. :ksc75smile:

Never turn off your tube amp? 😱
That's why one needs hundreds of backups. :sweat_smile:
Does it double as a night light. 🤔
Every night, except most nights.
Now I'm curious which pop you guys are talking about, I think with Lyr 3 and Solstice they both pop a bit when it turns out but it's not super loud......?????? Is it the same thing?
Not the same thing. My Vali 2+ delivers a loud zap of near driver-frying electricity if phones are plugged in at turn on. And makes a cranky, angry pop when plugging in phones after the cranky warm up period. Could be my Vali 2+ is just cranky - to better match its owner's attitude. :ksc75smile:

I tested my Vali 3, turned on the unit, let it warm up, then pluged in my EditionXX--no popping whatsoever. Schitt must have solved that problem.

I don't have any 'ignition pops' with Vali 3. However, I always wait one/two minutes after 'ignition' on any h/p/a before plugging in headphones. No 'pop' when the headphone is plugged into Vali 3.

Thanks, guys! That's good, quiet news. Might have to consult with my investment banker about a new schiit investment. :k701smile:

<cue Hank Hill> "That amp ain't right"

I still get a tiny bit of a pop plugging in my cans after turn on, but nowhere near as loud as if I leave them plugged in in the first place.

Acutally I know what you're talking about... was rolling like a mad man with Garage1217 '6922>5670' adapter-6CG7 tubes and noticed 'ignition pops' only happened when first launching with headphones plugged in. Nothing post listening...

In other news, '396A WE Dual Triode' NOS NIB 1977 just lauched an hour ago... Condocondor was correct on saying, "Sound staging & imaging is fantastic. Dynamics & body are fantastic."

Listening to Tourist's new album, 'Memory Morning', -electronic, downbeat, downtempo, indie electronic.

Track #5, 'Ithaca', addicting track- Happy New Release Fridays!
