Schiit Valhalla 3 - Impressions Thread

My V3 shipped right before they started sending out adjusted units. I received it on the 10th, but this Friday will be the first day I will be able to use it as I needed a 6.3 cable. It's plugged directly into a wall outlet and I am using stock tubes. I will report back here to let anyone interested know how it went this weekend. Fingers crossed!

My unit didn't trigger as often some others have experienced. I sent mine in due to owning several Planar headphones, and another one will be added at the end of the year. My new Valhalla 3 will arrive Thursday, and I will be glad to have it back. :L3000:

Hopefully you won't have any issues, but Schiit support is there if anything comes up. The Valhalla 3 has a 5 year warranty, and Schiit is known to honor their warranties. Like I posted earlier, I have owned a lot of Schiit since 2019, and this is the first time I have had to send one in for service/replacement.

I don't have planars right now - I used to. I just have both Bokehs, so hopefully :L3000:

Looking forward to your Bokeh impressions on the V3. It seems like a very synergistic pairing on paper, but the proof is obviously in the pudding. Can't wait to see how it goes. I love my Bokehs on tubes, though I mainly run mine on SET tube amps.

Legally i think it's not suppose to be sold as new again. But for just a tune up and not replacing parts i can't say for sure if it will just go back into stock. it all depends on how they refurbish things.
It's a board replacement not a tune-up. After I sent an email to Schiit on 5/8 re: my issue, I was told I could get an RMA after the new production boards with the fix arrived the following week. ;)

My Auteur Classics didn't trigger the protection circuit with the stock tubes. It did when changing the tubes out though.
It didn't seem to have any issues when I rolled the pair of 6SN7 tubes I got. Others have mentioned tube current variance between units of the same make and model. So I could have just been lucky I guess. 🤔

I am still new to tube rolling compared to some others in this thread, but I make sure to look up specs prior to purchasing. Hopefully my luck continues with my tube purchases. 😅

Welp, there you have it. I guess maybe a few good deals in B-Stock.

Odd question, but... should my amp ever smell hot, like how a hairdryer smells sometimes? I just noticed this smell but hadn't noticed it the first few days of using it. I did happen to notice it while sitting closer to amp that I usually do, so it could be that. Everything still runs normally. Perhaps some dust or cat hair got in there?? Or maybe this is just normal. Or, very abnormal...?

Using the stock tubes, HD6xx on high gain, impedance multiplier off.

Sounds normal, and more likely to happen if a bunch of dust landed in/on it.

Maybe it's that new burnt car smell (joking) Might be from the transformers, they are wrapped with what looks like nylon heat tape. Maybe its that and maybe the smell will gas off after some time. Does the manual mention anything on it?
