Schiit Valhalla 3 - Impressions Thread

At their table they stated pretty definitively that it will be released in March. But as we know, the best laid plans.... + Jason's Law

By the way, they sound simply amazing. For those Vali 3 aficionados out there, I heard a tremendous jump between the Valhalla 2 and 3 similiar to the jump of the various Vali units to the Vali 3. You will be quite impressed. Huge step up from the 2.

When it was nicknamed mini folkvangner I knew it had to be something special. Ive been really impressed with Jasons latest generation of tube/ tube hybrid amplifiers, just stupid value for money.

Its been over 10 years since Valhalla 2 already I can't believe it.

New update in the Schiit thread:

Valhalla the Third

We recently previewed Valhalla 3 at CanJam, and people were thrilled…with the way it sounded, and the way it looked. I was a bit surprised at the strong reaction, given that it was $100 more than the outgoing Valhalla 2 at its last retail price, and a full 2x the cost of Valhalla 2 on closeout.

(Valhalla 3 is $499, for those not enjoying the mental math.)

But maybe I shouldn’t have been surprised. The original Valhalla debuted at $349, in a much simpler and cheaper era. In June 2010 we got our first order ever…and it was for Valhalla, a product we hadn’t finished yet.

Today, Valhalla 3 offers much higher capability, has modern protection features, is DC in and DC out (insane for a pure tube amp), and takes a lot of its sound and design from Folkvangr, our legendary limited-production 10-tube ticket to the funny farm we did a few years ago.

Unlike Folkvangr, Valhalla 3 isn’t intended to be limited production. So if you want one, you should have some time to make a decision (Valhalla 2 was around for 13 years!)

“So where is it?” people ask.

And I get to go back to Jason’s Law and say, “Soon.” If everything aligns, maybe the end of this month. But you know that every date I give is wrong. What I can say is that we have metal (both black and silver finishes), and we’re only waiting for boards.

When it hits, I hope you enjoy.

$499 price confirmed.

I have the OG Lyr 3 with an Apos Ray Vacuum Tube 6SN7 Reserve in it and it's REALLY GOOD!! So I'm definitely interested in this Valhalla 3. I just hope it offers a different Tube experience than my Lyr 3 does. The longer I go in the HP hobby the more I'm realizing that I prefer the sound of Tube amps over SS amps

It is using the same tubes as the Valhalla 2, but according to Jason and ACP its sound is heavily influenced by the FV. We should find out soon enough. :L3000:

I am more of a Class A type of Schiit Head in general. Mjolnir 3 and Valhalla 3 will be sitting next to each other on my desk hooked up to my Yggdrasil+ MIB. :smirk:

I have 2 Geshelli stacks... both are the JNOG3 to an Erish 3 Amp. I have the LYR3 on one setup and will put the Valhalla 3 on the other

Nice, I am a proponent of supporting US based audio companies. Speaking of which, the first two headphones I will be hooking up to the Valhalla 3 will be the ZMF Atrium Open, followed by the SJY Audio Horizon (Open). Both US based headphone companies.

I have yet to try a Geshelli product sadly, but who knows what the future might bring.

Yes... I'm with you on that. Most of my HP's and Gear are US made. I'll post a pic of my Stabilized Atrium I got in November. Pretty cool Purple type vibe

That SJY Audio Horizon (Open) headphone is a really interesting looking headphone. How do you like it?
Only had it for a few days now (though it has been out since last year), but so far I would describe it as a Arya Stealth with more slam, and better mids (top end still detailed but slightly less sharp; although I didn't have an issue with that). So, yeah I am liking it thus far, but I am still familiarizing myself with the headphone across multiple genres of music, and several amps. Valhalla 3 will add another variable into the mix, but from what I am told it should be an interesting pairing. :L3000:

I haven't played Ghost on it yet though.

Not gonna lie I’ve been really tempted by the Yggdrasil MIB but here in the UK costs $3,996!

I’m sure it will sound incredible with a Valhalla 3

It took me awhile to pull the trigger to purchase it. With Tax and Shipping it came to around $3k on my end. I rationalized it by making it a reward for paying off my mortgage. 😅

Yeah, the extra $1k to import it to the UK puts it up against some higher prices DACs. Harder to justify the purchase in that case.

It sounds great with my Vali 3 and Mjolnir 3, so like you said it should pair well with the Valhalla 3.
