Schiit Urd Impressions thread

The Urd is in my mind a cool transport. Controls are straight forward and easy to use.

The Urd has fit right in with my music replay preferences due to it's perfectly simple lay out of control, slim line box form, and basic functional actions: open drawer place CD close drawer press play listen to one complete disc.

USB C to A adapter

This can be useful for Urd owners using USB-C cables and occasional use of Apple devices with lightning connectors.

Tested this C to A USB adapter to connect a USB-C plug to an Apple ‘camera’ adapter. It works fine.

New Urd owner...

I purchased am Audioquest Cinnamon C>A cable for connection between my streamer and the Urd (works perfectly)
I also purchased an Audioquest Cinnamon C>B for connection between my Yggy MIB and Urd and it doesn't work at all... Anyone else have a problem with this particular cable?

The Audioquest Cinnamon cable is a good cable. I encountered a great deal of frustration over the USB hoo-hah. Most definitely not the Cinnamon USB cable.
I can state I do not know. URD. why there is an issue, but bummer on that
Currently Urd is connected via the Cinnamon USB cable to the Bifrost 2/64, and it is working perfectly. Again the problem is not the Cinnamon USB cable.
I've just spent the past four days with a vintage CD transport connected via SPDIF to the Bifrost 2/64, and music is very pleasantly enjoyed.
This evening I powered up the URD and listened to my current fave CD via the Cinnamon USB cable into the Bifrost. Very enjoyable. There is a 'cleaner', 'clearer', slightly 'faster' feel to the music via USB, IMO.
Just to state one more time, for the fun of it, the Audioquest Cinnamon USB cable is not the problem.

Hurts what and why?
I want to believe that generic unbranded cables are inferior… again I know its a religious debate so I should just keep my mouth shut.

Oh that’s a good idea, I’ll try my Bifrost to cross check the Yggy. I did also try another known-good cable but with a USB-C to A adapter and it also didn’t work. I emailed Schiit, but they’ve not been super responsive to me in the past so we shall see.

I've held off on posting a follow up as I don't want to give the appearance of being your typical forum complainer.

on 2/13 Schiit kindly shipped me a replacement Urd (after I purchased and tried 6 different USB cables). The replacement arrived and worked PERFECTLY... <yay>

until... about 6hrs later when it stopped passing audio :-/

The CD was spinning happily, the track clock progressing second by second, the USB output logo is solid as it should be, the AES cable is also connected so that I had an alternate output to compare against USB, the Yggy shows it has sync with the player on both outputs (obviously one at a time) ... no audio, nothing....

If I power down the Urd, power the Urd back on, audio is playing happily, and all is well.

We've been through this cycle twice now to confirm and I'm calling it quits on the Urd and will request a refund. Either I have horrendous luck (quite possible) or this device has some bugs yet to be worked out.

<EDIT> for any future readers who are curious, AudioQuest Cinnamon USB cables worked just fine.
