Schiit Modi Multibit 2 DAC

I don't know how it would be better. use it as a DAC or buy a DAC and headphone amp separately.

If you like the sound of the DAC in your Emotiva then you'd be fine using it with a simple amp like the ifi Zen Can. If you'd prefer to have a whole separate setup for your headphones then you could get the ifi Zen DAC and the Zen can, the Fiio K5 pro, Fiio K7, or the Fiio K9 depending on your budget and desired specs which are all DAc/amp combos.

Edit: If you have more questions please post in a more appropriate thread or PM me. We have hijacked this one enough.

now that i’ve confirmed for myself that MMb2 doesn’t run hot, i went ahead and stacked my amp on it. guys, i wouldn’t want an amp or dac that took up anymore space than this.

i am working from home today, and have been able to listen to this setup most of that time. music sparkles with the MMb2 (and the rest of the setup)

Got my MM2. Plugged it in this afternoon. Listening on the stereo tomorrow. Have it in the same system as my Gumby A1.

Can tell in 3 songs that its presentation is different than Gumby. Surprised at the bass.

I too was surprised at how punchy and articulate the bass sounds. It really gives a nice fullness to the notes without rounding them off too much which can sometimes be an issue in R2R and Multibit DACs, IME. Within the Schiit Multibit line I was able to compare my MMB2 to a borrowed Bifrost 2 for a couple days and to my Yggy for over a week and the MMB2 does quite well against those two. The price to performance ratio is very high with the MMB2, IMO.

To @pavnobi : It is awfully convinient to be able to get this level of performance and sound quality in such a relatively small footprint. That definitely adds to the value of the MMB2 for sure. I must've thanked my girl for knocking Christmas put of the park with the MMB2 like a million times. No exaggeration, I still find myself impressed when I start listening to it a full month later. Worth every penny and that's becoming a more and more rare truth when it comes to hifi and head gear purchases these days.

Just some real quick impressions. I really enjoy the presentation of this DAC. In comparing it to Gumby A1 I'd say its got more drive, a more forward presentation. Gumby has more nuance, is clearly the "better" Dac. Gumby sometimes feels a little too laid back to me. Listening to Dave Matthews Band and definitely enjoy it better through MM2.

Now putting on Norah Jones, Melody Gardot etc.. Gumby shows its finess, and again is the "better" DAC and it should be at $1k more. That being said you get a long way there with MM2 its quite enjoyable on its own with this kind of music.

I need a lot more time to listen, but initial impressions are that this is a great product at $300 and certainly has a lot of the multibit magic to it. I bought it to use on my desk with my headphones, but it will be staying for a bit in the big rig, which lucky for me is in the same room :)

Awesome! Your impressions are very similar to mine while comparing the MMB2 to the Bifrost 2 and my Yggy. I'm very impressed with how the MMB2 stacks up at only $300. It's a damn good deal with great price to performance ratio.

That said, I don't want anyone thinking I'm just saying that it's a great DAC *for the price*. The MMB2 is a great DAC. Period. As I've said before, after hearing many other DACs in and around it's price range, I believe the MMB2 to be the best DAC available for the money.

I actually feel so strongly about this that I'm considering writing a review of it to post here. I have never felt compelled to do that for any other product I have owned.

do it! Dude, this DAC still needs a video review too. I was looking for one over the weekend and no cigar. I’m glad you just emphasized it is a great DAC period.

I emphasized that because I was discussing it with a friend who's into headphones and gear and after I compared it to the more expensive DACs he said, "Oh so it's a good DAC for the money." I had to set him straight on that and it made me wonder if other people were taking my comments that way as well so I figured that I would try to be clearer on that from now on.

I'll do the written review if you do the video review lol! 😂 My fiancee produces and edits video for a big public relations and marketing firm and if I was home with her I might consider putting a video together, but my photography/video skills on my own are laughably bad. All of my artistic talent went to music and my brother and sister got the visual artistic skill.

This Anker USB-C to USB-C cable is a winner for the MMb2. I paused mid song, and switched out cords, and it seemed like the song sounded more vibrant after the Anker USB cord was in place. I’d be surprised if it is a difference maker.

On a side not. I unstacked the MP from the MMb2 when I changed the usb-c cable and noticed the top of the MMb2 is warm. I’d guess from the MP. Is that something to fret or forget?

It's nothing to worry about. Components get warm to the touch all the time. As long as it's not hot, then it's no big deal.

I started my day at the office and hooked up my Magni+ over there. I’m back home now using MP and MMb2 together and it is making me wish I had a second MMb2 to hook up to my M+ at the office.😆:)

I'm the CD spinner in the crowd and today I switched from my Audioquest coax to my toslink cable, it's a nice glass cable. I use an Audiolab 6000CDT transport. Anyway, I've spent a lot of time with the mm2 and primarily use my Asgard 3 because it pairs up so well with the Asgard. Anyway, I swear I hear a difference in the music between the two cables. Of course with a CD any bandwidth restrictions isn't an issue. The toslink seems to have a little more treble and midrange clarity. I must be imagining this. I'll leave the toslink in for a week and then go back to the coax to see if I hear any differences. I'd think they'd sound the same.
