weird. the usb-c to usb-c cable i got suddenly no longer works with my laptop for audio. it was working before.

do any of you have a link for a tried and true usb-c to usb-c (Windows) cable on Amazon?
I know they are not necessarily cheap, but I'm a fan of Audioquest USB cables. I buy Cinnamon level, but forest is more than adequate. I know not a popular opinion, but I've never had a problem with them.

Make sure you have the connector turned the correct way in the MMB2. With some USB C cables, including one of mine, I have to plug it in to the back of the MMB2 with the logo facing towards the power supply plug or it doesn't work.

Paracable.com makes some nice affordable, but very well made cables.

Moon Cables also makes nice ones and they'll do custom work, but they aren't cheap.

I have a couple that I ordered off a store on AliExpress that are actually very nice with high quality chokes, good independent sleeving/insulating of each conductor, and quality gold or rhodium plated connectors. I actually took apart one that I ordered because I was curious to see if it was built well or just dressed up to look like an "audiophile" usb c cable like some products on there. I was pleasantly surprised.

I will say though, that pretty much any decent USB C cable should work just fine for you.

It says it supports data/file transfer so it should be okay. You just can't use charging only cables.

cool. it said not for media display, but if it says data transfer it should work. Anker products I’ve used have usually worked well. this other cable is working again. I think it was the direction it was plugged in. I noticed the cable is too stiff though and I don’t want it to put directional pressure on the DAC or Laptop usb-c ports

Yeah, that's why I mentioned in my post above to check the way you have the cable plugged in because I have at least one that has to be plugged in facing the right way for it to work. I'm glad you got it working again.

When I looked through that cable's description it says that it supports 480 mbps file transfer of movies, music, photos, etc so you should be good. I haven't used this cable myself obviously, but if it truly supports data transfer like it says then you should have no problem using it plugged into your MMB2.

I recall suggesting this one:

I just finished reading through the thread and saw a lot of comments comparing the Modi Multibit 2 to the earlier version, but didn't see any references to the add-in multibit card used in the Asgard 3 and Lyr 3. I have the multibit card in my Lyr and the ES9028 card in the Asgard. Anyone have any comments regarding how the multibit card compares to the new MM2, or the older version?

TLDR: Things went from great detail to organically perceived detail

It’s addicting
Loved your impressions, and yes it's addicting. It's also the cause that "audiophiles" end up spending more and more to get less and less of that. I would caution against that!

HST, the thing about listening to different DACs is this: Listen to both for a long time (an hour?). Switching back and forth doesn't really accomplish anything.
See if you hear differences. When you do think you hear a difference, that's the time to switch back and forth relatively quickly to confirm the difference.

One thing I did a long time ago was listen to a recording encoded at different bitrates and different upsampling rates (same recording). That formed my impression/thoughts/approach to how to listen to DACs

That’s the one that briefly quit working. It is working again now, but I’m concerned about how stiff the cable is and that it is putting directional pressure on the DAC and Laptop usb-c ports.

When I need custom cables I either order from Blue Jeans or Pine Tree Audio. Blue jeans for cables I never see, Pine Tree for cables I need to look at :-D

I like the cable. YMMV. :)

Is the problem the cable or your devices?
it only didn't work once, but i think that was just because the direction it is plugged in might make a difference. the reason i want to use another usb though is because this one is very rigid. the way the cord goes from the MMb2 to my laptop I'm concerned about directional pressure in the usb-c port. i ordered an Anker cord to try that. it is supposed to be soft and easy to bend/position. this cord is working absolutely fine atm, I'm just being cautious.

For those looking for a USB C to C cable, I did some research and settled on the one below for value. There are definitely very few "audiophile" USB A to C cables out there compared to A>B. Oyaide does have some black cables for around $80 that best AudioQuest Carbon.

Oyaide NEO d+ USB Type-C to C Cable - 1-Meter Length (3.2 ft) https://a.co/d/93y8Wqd
