@adias @JAnonymous5150 find a high quality recording of “Ruby, My Dear” by Chihiro Yamanaka from her Monk Studies album. MMB2 up on that too. Grant Green’s Standards album is a favorite of mine too. Particularly “All The Things You Are”

If you're into prog or djent kinda stuff and you'd like to hear what the MMB2 can do on busy passages with a lot of tonal shifts and complexity might I suggest two albums: New Levels New Devils by Polyphia and Escapades (Deluxe Edition if you can) by The Omnific. Both do a great job of showcasing the technical abilities of the MMB2 (or anything else you'd like to test for that matter).

Beautiful! I love good music I haven't heard before.

picking out the tonal differences between the M+ and MP are easy enough for me, but I am still learning to find what the mmb2 brings to the table. for sure i know the volume gets a push when i connect to the dac, but what else would someone notice? i’m committing to leaving this on 24/7, so maybe in a couple of days maybe it will be broken in. i think i read here someone mention that

As much as it sucks, some people claim they don't hear any difference between most DACs. That said, I would expect the difference between an onboard laptop DAC and the MMB2 to be immediately apparent and quite obvious. I have an HP laptop that's onlya year old and going from its 3.5 to my Magni 3+ versus using the MMB2 with the Magni, the increase in detail, layering, separation, staging, imaging, timbral/tonal accuracy are all pretty drastic.

Schiit has a good return policy so if you really don't hear much of a difference between the laptop DAC and the MM2 after spending some time with it you can return it. That's always an option.

Everyone's ears are different. I know that I'm hearing the MM2 differently than I did when I got it at Xmas. It took me getting used to the sound of it and I like going into and out of NOS mode to hear changes to the music.

Depends how good the digital to analog conversion is in the laptop itself, apple for example are very good already, clean and detailed. Poor implementations can sound hazy and distorted. Some people will like to tell you that DAC upgrades saved their marriage but the differences really aren’t that drastic, think subtle refinements that can go a long way depending how good your hearing is.

My suggestion is use the multibit for a week and just enjoy the music don’t think about technicalities and then switch back to the computer output and see how you feel about the change.

This is fantastic advice! Switching back and forth and straining to hear things will often do more harm than good. Nothing highlights the differences in gear like listening with a piece of new gear for a good solid time frame, like a week, without switching to anything else. Then when you switch back differences in the presentation become more obvious because your ears/brain adjusted to the gear over that week.

I’ve been just listening like @AnalogEuphoria and @JAnonymous5150 mentioned. Very happy with the setup right now. Granted, I’m using the MP and MMb2 which are both brand new to me.

Here’s what I have so far that I believe is result of the MMb2. Songs that I already heard with nice detail and timbre, now have an added grip to them. Like this, imagine you run your hand across tile and feel the grout lines and ceramic tile. You were feeling with your hands. Now (MMb2) you’re feeling also with your finger tips and you feel more defined texture and grip in the tile. Subtle differences are now more pronounced. Not in a way that distracts, but in a way that contributes to the experience.

The second observation is if before things sounded like you were hearing a conversation with a very clear signal through a speaker, now (MMb2) you are in the room the conversation is happening in and you hear the conversation clearly as well as the nuanced sounds of the environment the conversation is being held in.

TLDR: Things went from great detail to organically perceived detail

It’s addicting

do any of you have a link for a tried and true usb-c to usb-c (Windows) cable on Amazon?
