Schiit Mjolnir 3 - Impressions Thread

I agree that cables matter, and that WBC Pro cables are an outstanding value. I have yet to test the quads, but the lo-cap cable is very musical and balanced, offering nice depth. I have some OCC cables that are pricier and don’t perform as well imo, although they seem to offer more detail, the sound just isn’t as balanced or as deep as with the WBC pro cable.
Funny enough I picked up a pair of their low cap cables a few weeks back to use in my living room speaker setup and they do perform well. I use their Mogami 2497 cable with locking RCA connectors for my Vali 3 .

Edit: WBC XLR interconnects, speaker cables (banana plug terminated), and jumper cables in that setup. Yeah... I have purchased quite a few of their cables. :smirk:

Giving my Corpse Cable XLR interconnects a rest while I tryout WBC's Pro Quad XLR interconnects (Yggdrasil+ MIB>Mjolnir 3). I was curious as to how they did with their first inhouse cable design, and so far not bad (need more time with them). Mjolnir 3 does respond to the parts of the chain you put before it, so a pretty good test of these $40 1 foot cables. I am going to get some time in with them, and then swap back to the Corpse Cables (already noticing that mids are more forward though). I have quite a few of WBC interconnects, but they are mostly of the Mogami Cable variety (too much bass for the Mjolnir 3 IMO, and a little narrower soundstage (depends on which version though)). Yeah, I am a cables matter guy, but I do believe that they are not the main place to invest into your audio chain. So if these are good enough for most, I will be recommending them in the future for those who are considering the Mjolnir 3.

+1 for the WBC's Pro Quad XLR interconnects. Very good quality cables for a very low price.

Yeah, I am getting that feeling thus far, but I like to settle into changes in my setup prior to coming to a formal conclusion.
As I added to my last post, I have purchased quite a few of their cables (to the point of not remember how many ).

I know what you mean. I initially bought one pair to connect the OG Gumby to the Mj3. This worked out so well that I bought a second pair, then their low-cap RCA cables to connect the tuner.

Is "WBC" World's Best Cables?

Yes indeed. 😉

Okay I thought so. I think I've had a set of their speaker terminal jumpers but that's it. Never had any of their cables. My RCAs are just Amazon Basics. Can't recall what my XLRs are but also bought on Amazon.

Patiently waiting on my MJ3. Ordered in mid-February. I see that the shipping date for current orders has been pushed out to 4/30 now on the Schiit website. This affords me the opportunity to practice patience. Ha! At the very least my Bokeh Closed might be ready by then too.

I've been content with the Taipan RCAs and XLRs I've purchased from Snake Oil and with my speaker cables from Blue Jean Cables. I haven't tried WBC yet. Honestly, I didn't like the Amazon Basics I tried but YMMV, of course.

Well I have only tried the RCA Amazon Basics and not the XLR. If other cables like WBC or BJC or such are genuinely better then I don't mind paying more. But I would never pay hundreds or thousands of dollars for a cable.

Yea the waiting game sucks, but you’re in for a treat my friend. It’s a fantastic amp and going through Schiit direct is wise, you’ll get the fantastic warranty that comes with it.

I had to wait a while for mine as well due to it being part of the 2nd batch of the OG 500 units. If your Bokeh Closed reaches your door around the same time then you will be in for quite the first listening session.

WBC sound will depend on which wires the model you purchase are using. I am finding the Pro Quad to be better than the other XLR interconnects I purchased from them (still early impressions of course). Everyone has there favorite/go to cable, but in my case I like experimenting. Audioquest interconnects I found to be worse than WBCs early on (at least those I have tried which were below $100 a pair). So if you have less than $100 to spend on interconnects WBC is normally my recommendation.

And if ABs are working for you, you'll have saved yourself a bundle of money. No judgment here. I've come to think that quality cables can make a difference (or perhaps it's better to say that avoiding dirt cheap cables helps more) especially for speaker, phono, and headphone cables in particular. To me, though, "quality" means reasonably priced stuff like Snake Oil or Blue Jean, not the astronomical audio jewelry out there. It sounds like others on the thread swear by WBC. I haven't tried them yet. The most I've spent on interconnects is $80 or so, a bit more for a well-shielded phono cable, about $120, and perhaps $220 for a nice headphone one. Anything beyond that, to me, moves beyond "quality" into "audio-insanity" but, as they say, to each their own.

I had to wait a long time for Folkvangr too (3 months) so I'm fine to wait as long as it takes for Mjolnir 3, but I appreciate the support! And, yeah, I always buy direct from Schiit because of the warranty and support. Just makes sense, especially when you venture into their higher priced gear.

The only time the wait might become intolerable is if the BC arrives and MJ3 still isn't here. 😜 It'll be my very first pair of ZMFs. If that happens I suppose I could try them on the Folkvangr with the impedance multiplier on and see how they work. FV has surprised me before and the Bokehs are easy to drive from all reports. Still I intend to drive them with the MJ3 primarily. I'm saving up my pennies to eventually get an open 300 ohm from ZMF to pair with Folkvangr along with my trusty HD800s. The hard part is whether to choose the Aeolus, Auteur Classic, Verité Open, or (most likely) the Atrium Open. So many choices! And, then, of course, when Mjolnir 3 finally arrives, does contemplating a Caldera Open or Closed down the road make any sense? That's an even more painful hit to the wallet (an AO or VO would be by far the most I've ever paid for phones). Decisions, decisions, decisions. Remind me @MindBreak which headphone(s) do you use with your Mjolnir 3 again?

(The AudioQuest cables I've bought just didn't seem worth the money, although I do have a couple pairs of their Y-cables and have liked those.)
