I have been running my amp on low gain and push-pull, but it's kind of a toss up really and may be somewhat load dependent. Experiment and see what works best for your ears is ultimately what we all do.

Out of curiosity what are you considering as 'more energetic cans'?Yggdrasil MiB is less tilted to the dark side, and provides better detail resolution. The synergy thing is so important. The LiM is also a great dac, but needs a substantially more neutral amp to pair with it. That is why the synergy with the GSX Mini was so good. The MiB with the MJ3 is better, but does show now that IMHO more energetic cans are going to have to happen. This is my opinion, YMMV as always.
Thinking about ZMF Caldera stabilized to complement with the Elites. I am getting the new angled alcantara pads today and will be rockin those this evening. Those pads are supposed to help quite q bit, so I bought them to try, $200 for the pair. Ouch. But I intend to keep the Elites because I really like them a lot.

I think I’ve mentioned this before, but I personally think you’d be better off going with a ZMF dynamic driver headphone to complement your Elite. I see you have a number of planars, so are you opposed to dynamic drivers? I compared the Caldera head-to-head with my Elite and couldn’t justify keeping them both. I feel like they are a little redundant, though they obviously have different tunings. I’d say they are on the same level in technicalities though.Thinking about ZMF Caldera stabilized to complement with the Elites. Then again, I have no doubt you’ll like the Caldera once you get a chance to hear it. For that matter, I don’t foresee anyone that likes the Elite disliking the Caldera.
I think adding an Atrium Open, Verite or Auteur might make for a more diverse headphone collection along with your Elite. That’s my $0.02 at least.
P.S. I look forward to hearing what you think about the Angled Alcantara pads. I use those 100% of the time now on my Elites.

You were right! These pads do make a difference. And I have come so close to pulling the trigger on Atrium Open stabilized so many times, still not ruling that out. I hope to get a chance to listen to both at Can Jam Dallas in November. I am seriously thinking about building a DIY Aegis amp also. I know I can just buy one, but seems so cool to rock an amp that I built. And I still really want to hear a well tuned biodyna driver, the Atrium might just do it. I would like to audition it first. Allegedly the AO works OK with the MJ3. Although there is a pronounced impedance mis-match between MJ3 and AO, not sure if that is worth considering or not?I think I’ve mentioned this before, but I personally think you’d be better off going with a ZMF dynamic driver headphone to complement your Elite. Damn it these pads transformed this headphone! OMG I am loving this headphone now! Who would have thought pads can make such a difference? Such a good recommendation. Staging is even better now, no more congestion, maybe just now hearing the MiB and MJ3 to the full extent. Ecstatic.Never looked back since getting the angled alcantara.

The sound staging with the Elite and my stack is incredible. On well recorded and mastered songs this is intoxicating. The detail and layering with instrumental placement within the stage is blowing my mind. I think I am now a sound stage + detail + airiness junkie. Vocals are just sublime. Seriously it sounds like the stage is 3 feet around my head. I had no idea a planar could do this. The ambiance and presentation of this dac, amp, and headphone is crazy good. So sweet. Many thanks for recommending these pads for the Elites. And for anyone on the fence about this dac and amp combination, just do it.

after all the talk of Mjonir3 and Yggys and Flux Mentor I think the 2 best combos are Yggy MiB >> Mj3 and Yggy OG >> Mentor. The MiB adds the missing detail to MJ3 with a black background from the MiB, Meanwhile the Yggy OG / Mentor combo has that black background and details from the Mentor as well as the awesome dynamics and Moffatt Bass from the OG.The sound staging with the Elite and my stack is incredible. Just some fantastic synergy in both cases. Would love to have those 2 stacks side by side for some A/B.

It is amazing the difference burn in makes with MJ3 at least when it comes to driving this 10 ohm 87db/mW load (granted the first run which I have was suspected of having and even lower sensitivity in the 82 db range).
Edit: Just a side note, I decided to double check my hearing range since I haven't done so in a while. I can still hear above 18khz, so keep that in mind if your experience differs a lot from mine. I am also someone who can hear the difference between cables.

Yet I like my Arya V3, who would figure. Granted it took 2 cable swaps to get them sounding just right to me. The MJ3 did make an improvement on top of that vs my Burson Soloist 3xp /w supercharger.oh WOW, your ears are 'hot' as Hades lol. I can only hear to ~ 13k
Yea 18k is where i tap out at, strangely i've been hearing a tad bit better in one ear than the other...that cant be good lol sometimes it bugs me sometimes it doesnt. I may have to see and ENT specialist about possible wax deep in the canal, if thats not the problem i may have to look into an amp with some balance control at some point. Hows your balance slack? dead center at all times?oh WOW, your ears are 'hot' as Hades lol. I can only hear to ~ 13k

That's why I wish more headphone amps offer volume balance control for folks with slight imbalance hearing like myself. But for now, I adjust the balance with my source music app.Yea 18k is where i tap out at, strangely i've been hearing a tad bit better in one ear than the other...that cant be good lol sometimes it bugs me sometimes it doesnt.
