Thing is when mine started getting crazy hot. I had a fan on it and everything and i still smelled a burning odor from the amp. So I think it’s just the first sign of a failure or something about to happen.

It smelled funny but not burned .... yet ^^
I'll contact schiit. I still have 1 year warranty, but if I could avoid a fire hazard, it would be nice to still have a home for christmas (and after)

I remember you guy saying it was running warm, but is it running hot ? I can barely put my hand on it more than 3 seconds and it's running even hotter than the Aune S7 that is supposed to be between 60c and 70c.

I'm looking at some 40x10 fans to do like @Reputator
Sounds like the Asgard 2 which runs hot enough to fry an egg on. But with the A2 being pure class A the heat is expected.

You should have more than 1 year left. The amp only released last year...

In EU, they lowered it to the minimum legal which is 2 year.
Sorry to hear that.. Hopefully they can get it sorted out. 👍

They said it's normal for it to run burning hot ... the future will tell
The Asgard 2 runs extremely hot without a problem. I wonder if the Lyr+ is pure class A bias and that's the reason it runs so hot?

Nah it's Class AB with Schiit's Continuity circuit.

yeah it’ll run warm but not hot. Like if you touch it and feels like you can’t keep your hands on it. Something is definitely up. At least that’s what i observed when mine failed.

That sounds right. Now with pure class A bias headphone amplifiers like the Asgard 2 you really can't touch them for more than a few seconds without burning your hand, which is normal.

I'll keep an eye on it and ask schiit again. It was also fine the first few days, just warm, but not hot like that

Guess who has another broken schiit lyr+ ^^

I just received another LYR+ in black to do a lot fo A/B test and tube rolling. This amp has perfect specs for me and the TUBE + SS is revolutionnary, it would have been my endgame amp (would have been even better if it had a DAC)

After 2 hours, new lyr+ is nowhere near warm, and the silver lyr is burning hot. Near the end of the session, I tried to use the remote to change the volume and no more volume change nor relay clicking. After let it rest for a few minutes, it doesn't output anymore. dead

So the answer I got from schiit was indeed wrong and you were right. They just didn't want to to replace my lyr in advance.

Burning hot = failure incoming !
