Best?

I spent my 4 years down there chasing it everywhere… can’t even remember half of the names… but Kreuz Market was up there, as was Franklin’s, Coopers (in Blanco, anyways), and… hell, the local trailer guy in Wimberley… and everywhere in between down to SA, up to RR, out to Fredericksburg, and out into the farming flatlands to the east…

THAT is one thing I very much MISS about Texas (even in the - shudder - Summertime).

Folks, it really IS a “religion” down there… For a reason. I love me my Carolina-style pulled pork, but for beef… gimme Texas.
Got up at 5am to fire up the smoker. .
Put on 2 chuck roasts seasoned like brisket (At 6am).
Will cook them like brisket as well.

I'm just learning, but doing it yourself is the best way to get BBQ here in PA.

Maybe someday I'll graduate to brisket, but staring at a $100 piece of meat at the store was too terrifying at this stage.

Kind of like watching TV through its speakers or listening to music with the speaker on your phone. Downright scary.

My SQ5 badges are straight. Man that would make me nuts!

OH! I just noticed that the "5" is slightly higher than the Q. Huh. I was focused on the space between the S and the Q, which is not there in their written material.

Looks like Honda employs the same blind children. I noticed a couple of weeks ago that the instrument cluster is tilted to the left. 🤨

…though Audi’s appears to be a deliberate and terrible kerning choice.

Come on now, it was Hyundai-Kia and none of the kids were blind that were working in their plants here in Alabama! Only slightly kidding, the news story broke a couple years ago that 10+ plants in the supply chain had minors working in them here in Alabama.

Brisket prices are crazy. They were pretty reasonable until Covid hit and beef became scarce. When the market discovered people would pay premium prices for brisket, they never dropped. The ironic thing is brisket and ribs used to be trash meat, handed to field workers by rich land owners. It took another culture to make the cuts popular.

Briskets I've bought in the past few years have been highly disappointing, dry and tough. That applies particularly to supposedly choice black angus, but the "cheap" ones haven't been much better. These days, I prefer a pork shoulder. I'll be prepping one this afternoon and starting the smoker early tomorrow morning.

Hope your venture turns out tasty.

I know it was previously mentioned here that Samsung had acquired Harmon International, so now under the heading of the big companies keep getting bigger, this:

Harman International, a wholly owned subsidiary of Samsung, is purchasing the audio business of health technology company Masimo for $350 million in cash. The deal is expected to be finalized by the end of 2025, though it's still subject to regulatory approvals. Samsung purchased Harman International back in 2017 for $8 billion, though it allowed the company to operate as an independent subsidiary. Harman's brands include JBL, Harman Kardon, AKG, Becker, Studer, Revox, Mark Levinson, Infinity, Soundcraft, Arcam, Bang and Olafson, and Revel, as well as smaller properties like Flash, Roon and Lexicon. When the acquisition is completed later in 2025, Masimo's audio brands under umbrella holding company Sound United will be added to the list, including Bowers & Wilkins, Denon, Marantz, Boston Acoustics, Definitive Technology and Polk Audio.
Such bad news for customer choice and healthy competition

I have products from 6 of the listed brands. Will Samsung be providing Samsung stickers at a discount for owners of said products? 🤔

That's a press car. They're doing that on purpose, it's like that on all 2026 models.

OH! I just noticed that the "5" is slightly higher than the Q. Huh. I was focused on the space between the S and the Q, which is not there in their written material.
It's actually not sitting higher, but it looks like that because of the shapes of the Q and 5 they went with.

My point was:
Whoever designed that clearly doesn't understand that typesetting is an art.

It matched other bids and I got a discount for cash.🤪 Turns out they are repairing my yard too.

How is your amplifier build coming? I still owe you some cabinet work.😉 Hopefully you and your wife are doing well.
Amp build has been on hold due to other projects, like the HPM-100 crossovers [ waiting to get the cabinet back from getting reinforced by my nephew] and a number of non-audio time consuming activities. Barbara has good days and bad days, but overall she is stable. I do PT 2 X week to stay physically active, and do a lot of paper designs to stay alert. Of course, the shop is always alive with music. I plan to get back on the amp soon, as it will be too hot to do anything outside in the summer. Stay safe!

I respectfully and heartily disagree. PRE-recorded by the labels Cassette tapes did indeed SUCK ballz…

But quality tapes, recorded from quality sources on a good Nakamichi (in my experience) absolutely do NOT sound like Ass. In fact, their specs are quite excellent (in fact their S/N is actually better than my Stjärna; at better than 72dB!). For ME, when CD first came out and I got that very first Sony CD player in the early days of digital, I felt my Cassette recordings of my LPs (source then was Oracle/Koetsu/SUT/ARCSP3a via my Nakamichi sounded BETTER and more musical; without any of those execrable early digital nasties…

Again, if ones only exposure was pre-recorded; totally agree.
(That said, if it turns out post restoration that ALL my old mix tapes are lost, I won’t mourn selling my Nak’s to silly hipsters for way too much coin… frees up funds… not like I’m going to purposely be making net-new recordings… where would I USE them? It’s not like the car Audio use case is particularly valid anymore)
Cassettes recorded using good electronics had their place. I used Teac recorders. John Lennon used a Nakamichi Dragon to record demos and snippets of songs when he was not in the studio.

Good luck. Learning how to ascertain (and deal with appropriately) the “stall” is critical. Have a digital meat probe in, and monitor the temps, when the acceleration begins to noticeably slow and then effectively stop (typically around 165-175F… it is NOT “done” yet (it’ll be terrible at this point). Take it off, tightly wrap in real butcher paper (for all that is Holy do NOT use aluminum!) and then resume the smoking until it is around 198-202F… THEN it is done. Never done a chuck roast… have done Pork Butts, ribs of all kinds, brisket, sausages, salmon, and more…

I live close enough to Lancaster, PA to go out and find a good Amish butcher. Might take some experimenting.

I try to rotate what I am doing on a weekend. Last weekend was Chicken Wings, Thighs, burgers and Pizza. This weekend is the chuck roast.

My Dad wants ribs for Father's day so I May squeeze in a couple racks before then to practice up. My last attempt at them was good, but not great.

Good luck with your pork tomorrow.

I think the front driver's side tire may be low. Or the instrument cluster cowl is tilted to the right. 😏
Speaking of automobile oddities, I was looking for a new vehicle for my wife, and noted that at one dealer all the cars had a $2995 Dealer Installed option, so I asked "What is this?". Turns out it is a bunch of useless stuff like nitrogen in the tires, tints, etc., but the big ticket item that the salesman was proud of was the "20 year/100,000 mile non-transferable extended warranty". When I told him that all of that was useless and I had no intention of paying for it he asked why, and I said "Are you brain dead? How old do you think I am? [I will be 82 in July] ". I still  don't think that he understood.
