.... I feel the same way about early U2 .... then they acted important .... Bono at Davos World Economic Forum? .... [Frank Zappa title: 'Shut Up N Play Yer Guitar']
I was working for radio station KOME in the mid 80s and on a phone call with an editor for NME in London. We were negotiating sharing programming about what’s new n the UK and he said he had news that U2 was in the studio producing an album designed to become number one world wide. He said they had abandoned their musical ethos in favor of making big bucks. That’s when I knew they were finished in my mind.

On another note, by happenstance I got to see and hear my first rich people stereo setup today, as I was dropping off my watch to be serviced at the nearby ”big city”, and visited the local hifi store to see what they got cooking over there.
Can’t help but to think what the speakers would have sounded like with Byggy and other top end Schiit.

Not exactly familiar with Hegel, but I’d say Schiit should be at least comparable, and if you are on this forum the affinity most likely would make you prefer the “Schiit sound”, where as others would probably feel it’s interesting different flavors.

That is worthy of a strongly-held opinion. As long as nobody is dictating HOW they fill their space with sound. Even Marylin Manson on a Bose setup is permitted.
I believe he bought those that I did not, I may have sold him a ‘63 when I had a bunch but it was so long ago it is hard to remember. In all honesty @bcowen mentioned someone should get some of the Melz to check out so I did. I knew a couple Russian ladies here in the states who began making queries on my behalf. At the time Bill was very much into Fotons and Frankentubes as I recall. On occasion he might point out a Melz or two so I got deeply into some of the variants as well as the perforated plate versions. About that time friends and I decided to gather all the 6SN7 equivalents we could find and I designed four identical Incubus amps for blind comparisons. (Bill had already done a blind comparison followed by Jason at Schiit with my help.)
A variant of the Melz got extremely high marks from the fifty people in my study so it was the tube I pursued like no other. Along the way I found that Foton’s and Melz suffered from solder issues inside the pins so I began teaching people how to fix that issue. I did not like the idea of just reflowing the solder that was already there.
That is my version of the story anyway, even though it pains me to give Bill some credit.

I believe Pop was their last good/cool album before they went ironically actual-pop with their sound. They got generic and irrelevant real quick after that.
