I'm quite put out. My storage device here failed with my music. It's backed up remotely but now I need to replace the enclosure and possibly the drive. then copy it back down.
The power outages here have killed: a NUC, a hard drive, several smart plugs, a few other things I can't remember. And except for the smart plugs they are all on "protected" power strips at a minimum.
Ah well.
Does the new Valhalla 3 resemble the Vali 3 or the Folkvangr more?
When I first heard about Valhalla 3, I thought "good, great, neat, awesome.....but I already have Folkvangr so have no need." And now? I guess I'll be buying one.
I am newly retired as of this week, and am doing what one does in that situation ... namely, plotting & scheming for all the amps and other gear that I ***NEED*** to keep me happy & busy in the next phase of my life ...
1 - Schiit Folkvangr - for tubey wonder - have
2 - Schiit Gjallarhorn (ordered) to drive my new Philharmonic BMR Monitors in desktop/nearfield mode (just arrived)
3 - upgrade to e-stats driver - pondering what to get, will happen soon
4 - Stax SRM-T1W (mod'd) - have - current e-stats driver (pro & NB)
5 - Schiit Lyr 3 - have
6 - Schiit Jot - have
7 - Schiit Mjolnir - soonish
8 - Schiit Valhalla 3 - probably cannot resist
9 - Schiit Lyr + - very tempting even though I have the 3.
Jason ... are you there Jason??? ... I need a Super Freya++ that has outputs and switching for at least NINE (9) AMPS ... a double-decker configuration would be fine.
Jason ... you created this problem ... YOU need to provide a solution.
Even if I add a Kara to my Freya I would still not have enough outputs, and the "what's connected to what" question would make that system complicated for anyone to operate.
I am very sure that I am far from being the only one with this very distressing problem.
I need some input on putting together a basic setup for use with a Mac Mini M2 2023.
Has anyone used a Modi+ or Modius E with that model Mac? When connected using USB, is the Mac volume slider locked out along with the keyboard volume controls?
I'd be using a Vali 3 and want to be able to trim the output from the source to have more range with the volume knob.
Playback would be done with Amazon Music app, and VOX Player for FLAC playback.

When you connect any of our DACs to your Mac and select that DAC as the main output device, the Mac's volume control will indeed be locked out and it will be up to your preamp to control the volume instead.
Most playback softwares like iTunes, the Qobuz client, or Roon, etc., will offer you their own (sometimes optional) digital signal attenuation before they hand off the data stream to the operating system.

I use streamers these days, but why would you want to limit the volume digitally? Are you using IEMs? If not, you have plenty of play in the volume knob as is on the Vali 3.

Pick up a Saga 2 for the superior volume control and adjustable gain. Then max out the volume of Vali 3. You’ll have more control of the volume without messing with the digital bits.
