Yes that was figured out by Bagwell as I recall. Pre-fiat we were gold, then silver based. Now most all countries in the world use paper (linen and cotton in the U.S.) This gives me an opportunity to study geology in the winter months and get outdoors more in the spring and summer. Not all gold has the same value, some with quartz still attached can be ten times the value. One such piece fetched 2.5 million and was found with a metal detector. I will do placer mining and very little hard rock.
Loved the 80's CA wines such as Rafanelli and Silver Oak, but yeah '92-'93 the prices went insane. 'Sideways' wrecked Pinot's a decade later. If I am going to overpay its for Amarone and Barolo (and similar) from Italy.
Dude! Seriously… Our top favorites of ALL are killer Brunello’s, Barolo’s and Amarone’s… this is getting seriously weird… I like the Barolo’s in that realm, Gerri is more “gimme Amarone or Brunello”
Alas, my stash is almost deplenished (all the good OLD stuff is anyways)
I think you would enjoy Civilization. I would start with Civilization 1, it is DOS based and the fact that each "Civilization Advance" in Civilization 1 is accompanied with an explanation as to its significance to society in general makes it especially enjoyable.
Yeah I had the order reversed, as best I recall it was to print money to help cover Viet Nam. Lincoln did a lot to protect the gold needed for the civil war. The Idaho territory became three states under his watch.
Great machine. For me it is my 'television'/video streamer, music streamer, my sound room correction and soon to be also my pre amplifier/DAC for dolby atmos (sphere of ginger audio) [my Bifrost shall become clock only]. the mac mini is very much a swiss knife !!
I watched The Prisoner when it first aired in the US in 1968 (what a year!). As a kid, I only vaguely understood some of its socio-political messages, yet I was completely captivated by the series and it remained indelible in my memory.
Fast forward almost 60 years later. Two years ago I visited London for the first time, to attend a wedding. Something I wanted to do was to visit the location of Number 6's London apartment where he was gassed and abducted (featured in the first episode and in the opening sequence of the series). The location can be found on the web — the address is 1 Buckingham Place, London SW1E 6HR. It looks just like it did on TV almost 60 years ago, and it is easy to imagine a black limousine pulling up and man in a top hat walking towards the door. The building is now offices, with businesses listed next to the entrance.
On Google Maps, you can go into Street View and see the hi-rise building across the street that Number 6 sees before he passes out. https://maps.app.goo.gl/dHjguZVTz4LkPZLh8
Warren's gig's with Phil are some of my favorite shows attended. 2012 at the First Bank Center, Broomfield, CO- Phil, Joe Russo, Jeff Chimenti, Warren, Jackie Greene and John Scofield. I was standing at the rail next to the photographer who took this picture:
I get it… I would fairly say that, these days, approximately 1/3 of our wine consumption is literally “Box Wine”… shoot me. It’ about life, family and food. You don’t always need “trophy wines” to do that ever so well…
But, I do still enjoy pulling out occasional bottles from ‘76 onwards…. (Dwindling, alas). Nothing better than a glass of Red and some excellent Jazz, Classical, or Prog (for me, others mileage may vary - albeit I do confess for a bit of a weakness for Rammstein and nearby anon…)
We have had this discussion before on here and an extremely high number of today’s wines are meant to be consumed in the first five years anyway.
“ Due to the cost of storage, it is not economical to age cheap wines, but many varieties of wine do not benefit from aging, regardless of the quality. Experts vary on precise numbers, but typically state that only 5–10% of wine improves after 1 year, and only 1% improves after 5–10 years.”
Now 1% of 36 billion bottles produced each year is not exactly a small number.
You are right I would think about boxed wines, sales increased after COVID as probably did moscato.

For some reason I was unable to rip this CD to my HDD. I tried three different programs but no joy. Anybody know what might be the problem?
Odd that the jewel case and all other packaging was undamaged.
