Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Wouldn't they work better under your speakers instead? 😏

Ok seriously... What would one suggest for tower speakers on carpet other than spikes?
GAIAs on the carpet spikes. Depending on speaker weight, you might get away with GAIA IIIs.

My B&Ws are within 5 lbs. of the max for the GAIA IIIs, so I chose to go for the IIs. Worth every penny.

I've never heard a single accessory make a bigger difference in my system's clarity and presentation.

Back in the day I listened to Joy Division/New Order, Depeche Mode, Brian Eno, several others, because they were something very new, fresh, vs. what came before (bland corporate rock, yacht rock). I've found myself at a stage where computer-generated music and vocals that have been auto-tuned to the nth-degree are a massive turn-off for my ears, the aural equivalent (for me) of overcooked liver and Brussels sprouts. I want to hear humans playing physical instruments and singing without a safety net. One of the reasons why I appreciate Neil Young's recording ethos is that it's one (maybe 2) takes and done, live off the floor. His "Le Noise" sampled music experiment with Daniel Lanois was a 180° degree opposite of that ethos and was a triumph for being a unique take on what could be done with samples, yet they were samples of Neil's guitar and vocals. A reason why I gravitated to Jazz and jam bands (not exclusively) is their focus on excellence in individual and collective musicianship and live performance.
I agree that there is a lot of music today, especially in the more pop realms, that is just overdone. But there is much new music being made on the fringes using synths and other electronics that continues that explorative ethos begun back in the era you mentioned; it's fantastic stuff. Most of it is found on Bandcamp and Bleep instead of embedded in 1-million-view TikToks and the homogenized radio stations that persist. Most of that stuff is tiresome, for sure.

That said, I do spend a lot of my time with orchestras and (mostly vintage - '50s thru'70s) jazz ensembles enjoying the experience of fabulous musicians playing analogue instruments. 😀

Here in the north west of England, we woke up to snow, and it was lovely. Now it’s raining, and what’s left of the snow is now slush.
Even though it didn’t last last, it was a good excuse to play my favourite winter themed CD, “I Am Snow”, by York based musician Heather Findlay. It’s lovely.
For some reason, this Christmas, this song has taken place of honor in my mind. My wife is like whaat?!

Maybe it was an incantation for a white Christmas.

With the improvements in headphones & with streaming music (and Schiit/like equipment, and wireless). today's kids have opportunities for music listening and enjoyment that my generation (boomer) could never have imagined. In 2024, you would not have to be exiled to the basement.

Which by some odd mental process somehow reminded me that someone ... sorry, can't remember who/where ... noted that it's time to start worrying about what kind of world our children will bequeath to Keith Richards.
Well, to be fair, my passion hobby the was model railroading, so I had a pretty big o27 gauge setup I worked with my dad. Happy days. But yeah, in 1971 - headphones? LOLOLOL…

Plus, made it MY space; painted the walls all psychedelic with UV-sensitive paints, had a black light… the hole thing. Listen to the Gordie Howe era Redwings on my crystal set that got ONE station, the local one…

I figure Keith will be best used by splitting him up into around 10,000 fire-starter sticks… ;)

Here’s a couple of ours from our time in the Hill Country - same time of year. If one can get access to the (scarce) rivers in Texas, it is sublime. Especially the Bald Cypress…

Yeah, from December to late March or April; it’s f’n killer… wait for your first summer! <grin>
