I always say there's no need for arguments: Texas has the best brisket, central/eastern NC is the best pork, and KC is weird ketchup food. Alabama is unique with the white sauce and they have some of the best sides.
Part of the Texas Naturalization Test:

1. Have you smoked a brisket?
2. Overnight?
3. Did you get up in the middle of the night to apply the Texas crutch?
4. Which crutch? Foil or butcher paper?
5. Knife required, or fork only?
6. Did your friends leave any, or did they take all home?
7. If yes, are all of your friends Texans?

Plus bonus questions about the Alamo, HEB, Goliad, Buc-ees, puffy tacos, etc, etc....

My grandparents owned a few BBQ restaurants when I was a kid in Austin. I thought everybody ate brisket 3 or 4 times a week lol.

She would marinade hers for a few days first then low and slow for 24 hours.

Definitely fork is all u need. And some bread.

People still use foil?

Rumor is there's going to be a new HEB in my 'hood. I'll believe it when the sign goes up. I nearly lost my Schiit when we drove by a HEB in Queretaro last month on the way from the airport to the hotel. Queretaro (that's in Mexico, folks) get's an HEB but we can't get one near(er) to DFW? Oh, the humanity!

For those who don't have one handy, HEB grocery stores are awesome.

I believe there are 3 HEB in the Dallas area - Plano, Frisco and McKinney.

Nothing out towards FTW yet.

What does it say about me that I don't want to drive to Plano, Friso, or McKinney? I hate traffic around here!

HEB+ is legit deranged, and a reason never to go to Sprouts or Whole Paycheck (which originated in Texas, for the doubters), but then again there's Natural Grocers, which again, for the doubters, will blow up your head, and then there's the plethora of exceptional local butchers doing amazing stuff with local meat and bandsaws (think Boarri in Corpus and Bergheim in Boerne), I mean seriously insane insane meat, and then there's Black Drum and gulf shrimp...food is probably one of the biggest surprises here.

Clearing out my parents' house back in 2011, we literally had to dump decades of magazines and journals as my father hadn't anticipated the digitisation of everything. And that was even before trying to get rid of over 1000 books.

And yet ... despite digitalization ... I do not have any more unclaimed "bookshelf" space now than I did 20 years ago.

Perhaps I could find a few things to get rid of ... ehhhhh ... NO!!! Not now. Maybe later.
