Previously it was stated that Dave liked the OG/A2 analog card for Yggy and that Mike preferred LIM. Where do they stand relative to MIB? Just curious.
I grew up with the idea that Pat Metheny’s music was “smooth jazz” - something I’ve never particularly liked. I picked up a CD of Jim Hall and Pat Metheny which I like, although as one reviewer suggested, it sounds like it was recorded under water (a quality I kind of like about this recording).
There are plenty of musicians who may create music I don’t particularly like, but I respect that they are creating something. It’s fun to discover something I enjoy in something I thought I would hate.
I can make a guess, but it's difficult to be sure from the photo. If @Slackaveli can send them to me, I'll do a proper in-person evaluation and report back.
At first glance the Vali 3 looks too pedestrian for me. At second glance? Same. Obviously it is not for me. I fear the Valhalla 3 will follow suit and be as visually dull. To me. Oh well.
I’m using x4… I *have to* when doing LP (via Skoll at 70dB gain) to get my normal listening setting to be around 1PM (remember my apogee’s are super not sensitive, IIRC around 84dB/Watt?). And that roughly aligns volume when I switch to CD (if I went to 1X it’d be way different than LP).
I didn’t here noticeable differences x1 versus x4 in my tests; TBH I’m optimized for LP playback for the foreseeable future.
Pushing the volume knob past 1pm should not deter you. IMHO the x1 and x4 modes are quite different. Different stage presentation and overall balance. I suggest you try it.
Speaking of honey… A friend was visiting (to bury his parents, who had passed within days of each other), so I grabbed a bottle of what his daughter assured me was his favourite dram. Jim Beam Honey…
Question: how does Gumby or other, earlier Schiit multi-bits compare to those two (available new). Money’s not exactly flowing like spring water, and I would definitely consider used.
I'd recommend OG Yggdrasil with the A2 audio boards, Unison if fed via USB. With a good speaker system, which you have, it may change a bit your views on digital vs LP. In our previous home, which was less physically beautiful but much easier acoustically, we had a very satisfying speaker setup with that DAC, Hegel 360, KEF Reference 1s, and REL T7is, with the right digital recordings, created pretty good simulacra of the symphony and jazz spaces we frequented (SF Symphony and SFJAZZ). Then we moved to our current home, which looks a lot better but needs major DSP magic to sound good (which it now does).
I do believe that expectation bias is real and especially in the audio world.
The former president of my company did blind taste testing of vodkas and proved repeatedly that Smirnoff was the best, even over Grey Goose and Ketel One. Of course, the vodkas were all chilled to 0C prior to tasting.
back in the Paleolithic Age, when I worked behind bars, I would frequently win large bets with patrons who claimed they could distinguish chilled vodkas.
And, yes, if you want a spirit that is odorless, colorless and tasteless by definition, Smirnoff is a wonderful choice. People who pay a premium for vodka make me laugh (and also pay my bills), so y’all keep doing you.
It barely even gets warm somehow. Flux has some magic sauce.
I, of course, intended to put it on top of the Yggy, but, I'd literally never seen anybody put the Yggy on top lol. And og Yggy looks so pretty on it's top.
How the Mentor doesn't get hot, idk, but the Yggy is warmer. The Mentor is almost cool to the touch except for it's sides which get almost to Yggy temps; Maybe bc it's designed to be a stack.
My Fiio K9 Pro gets hotter. It's insanity but 100% true.
If it ends up getting hot over time i'll switch it up, or maybe get some iso pucks or something just to be safe.
