Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Safety was a big part of my training, especially when working with lasers.
You can lose your eyesight in a nanosecond. It's a serious business. Even telecom (fiber). While most light nowadays in fiber is 1550nm for DWDM applications and is considered eyesafe, the pump lasers for fiber amplifiers are typically 980nm and your eye is very transmissive there. These lasers are quite powerful and NOT eyesafe by any stretch. The amplifiers I built were pushing tens of watts and one lossy splice would melt causing 20 watts of pump light to spray all over and if you weren't protected, you'd be sorry.

OMG, that brings back nightmares. I was the only tech who could could calibrate boards for my employer's fiber optic test system. A system consisted of five to sixty addressable fiber optic boards, two addresses for each board. Each address had one source and two receivers that required calibration. On a good day, I might calibrate eight boards. On a bad day, an optic coupler might be faulty and it would practically take a presidential order to get it changed.

This one is popular.

I have zero experience with this product, but considered it for awhile. I've since decided to continue running my mains full range, and augmenting the lows with the sub. It's an interesting enough product that I still have it bookmarked.
I own a K231, s/n 0001. I purchased mine back in 2018, I think... Mark hadn't even finished the prototype, and I pestered him so much that he sent me the first production article. :) Not currently using it in my system, but I won't part with it, as it probably has a future in a future iteration of my main rig. Works exactly as advertised, if you need an active crossover, you won't go wrong with this piece.

Speaking of optical connectors... The Schiit Modi+ toslink input connector makes a very wobbly and unstable connection. Tried several cables, most fail at 192kHz and those working are very sensitive to any movement. Talked to Schiit service and they asked me to send the unit back; at least 2 weeks RT and I am not sure they will solve the issue if it is a bad connector in there and all connectors are the same.

This is a second system driven by a streamer with only toslink out.

This afternoon's aural entertainment, competently presented to me by Gungnir MB, Lokius, Mjolnir 3, and DCA Æon Noir.

I don't think I'll ever grow tired of Hayley's voice.
I'm was not a big pop music fan when I was doing a lot of listening, but I got to agree with you on her singing.

I remember seeing a music video of the song "Decode" and couldn't believe that so much sound could come out of such a diminutive body.

That said, I was searching for an external crossover just last week, anyone have any recommendations for current products?
Digital or analog? Marchand, for the latter, for sure.

JLAudio has an expensive crossover.

Personally, I'm falling deep into the Linn hole with their ExaktBox.
