Wait, the MJolnir 3 is supposed to be an improvement on the Jot2? Would not mind a sound comparison with the Kara since there's so much feature overlap between it and the Jot2, but now I have to consider a new Mjolnir as an option as well?...

Ah, very disappointing but thanks. That's quite silly that it doesn't if the amp can otherwise run with it removed from the circuit. Hopefully the next rev can cut power off to it, I'll be holding off on it for now then.
The prospect of switching to solid state mode to avoid needing to reach behind the unit to turn it off every day so I could prolong the tube life would have been a major selling point for me but having to remove the tube entirely is even less ideal than that.
Hopefully Jason can do a minor rev to slap another relay in there to cut the heaters off.
Nope. Have you seen the Lyr+ board?

Also, if we cut off heaters, we also have to cut off HV. That's a lot of cutting extra stuff, especially when the HV is shared with the MOSFETs, which means separate management for both.

If this was a $1200, much larger product with multiple tubes, sure, more management could be done. But it isn't. Sorry.

You can always do what I do--pull the tube when not in use. There's even a cover provided to keep dust out of the chassis.

Hour into listening to MJ3 after Jot2 and wow! You wouldn’t think it could be this much better. BF2/64 and to a pair of Hifiman HE1000 stealth magnets. Will have to try with Yggy which should get a bit more detail
I’d be surprised if you pick up all the Yggy goodness with headphones - but definitely curious!

Glad to read early impressions are positive

Yggy goodness is most discernable with headphones, with my rig... but of course... YMMV. :innocent:

Saga S is gone in favor of Kara, it seems!
Saga S is still in the line, as is Saga+.

The Saga of Saga is an interesting one, to be honest, with not a lot of good answers and some (perhaps) very weird choices if we want to do an update on that one.

Here's the thing: Saga is expensive to make. And it doesn't sell that well. And it doesn't have any voltage gain, which some people like. All of those don't bode well for its future, either in S or + form. But if we try to address the lack of voltage gain, it gets more expensive, bringing it closer to Kara. Probably not a winning idea. If we want to cut cost, it's gonna end up in a Syn-like chassis with a wall-wart. Again maybe not the right idea. And then there's the whole question of I/O, as in there's super-limited space for balanced I/O if we want to think about adding that--and, if you increase chassis size, you end up at Kara again.

I'll keep playing with it, but we have both Saga+ and Saga S right now, and I'm pretty sure we have good stock of both. So there's that.

I got an Aegir in July 2020; if I bought a second now, what are the chances of the two channels sounding noticeably different?

Hey Jason.

Any chance of offering the Mjolnir 3 in the new 'heavy grain silver' finish you're currently working on?

It would be a perfect match for my silver Gungnir MB! :sunglasses:

Mjolnir 3 won't be available in silver, sorry.

No changes; it's the same amp.
