Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

When I owned my last home from 1988 to 2004 I had my listening room built over the 2 car garage it was pretty good but I always day-dreamed about a listening room with a slightly vaulted ceiling and a the wall behind my seating area that was curved with side walls that narrowed down slightly to a stage-like area for the the speakers.
..

I just can't unsee a diaper that badly needs changing...

Can't unsmell it either, for some reason.

Well, the reason is sensory memory coupled with visual association.

ETA: Extending the thought a bit further, what could be more fitting than a pile of Schiit in a room shaped like a distended diaper that needs changing?

Please tell me the paste does not come from between your toes!
This is a food grade material using beeswax and mineral oil. You generally soak cutting boards in food grade mineral oil, use this wax and you need to reapply the oil less often. Geesh!

Have you ever seen pictures of Bob Katz's mastering room? It looks like a normal living room, carpet and all. From what I've read, that's intentional, in order to replicate how his mastering will translate to a normal environment. :grinning:

Clearly he and I are two different kinds of insane. I can't imagine looking down at my screen all day and having to bend over every time I want to tweak outboard gear.

Can't argue with the results, but that just looks miserable as a place to be all day every day to me. I see the wisdom in the idea though.

While looking at Schiit’s product line, I often wonder about different combos of components. I already have one Gjallerhorn and think maybe I should get another one as well as Jotunheim and maybe Lokius just to have a cool little balanced rig as a back up stereo. (Or third back up stereo. Yes, I have a problem.)

As far as new products go I can think of three items I would probably buy right away:

1. 5 channel amp for Syn
2. Unison USB switcher
3. Tube phono preamp ( I already have one but I’d love to hear what Jason comes up with.)

My OMG CD last night was:

If I Could Only Remember My Name - David Crosby.
Atlantic-Rhino R2 659054/603497843398 from 2021

This features a fresh transfer of the master tape by Jamie Howarth and John Chester of Plangent Process. The clarity of this recording on every level is scary good! David's voice carry's the day, the roster list of artists this album is incredible, and the songs are fabulous.

URD > YGGY :smiley_cat: :smiley_cat: :smiley_cat:

I just finished listening to both CDs in this set. An excellent recommendation, thank you.

I tend to avoid 'remasters' as they typically decrease dynamic range in their race to maximize average sound level through compression. This release is an obvious exception. I can't add anything to your description apart from adding a +1.

OK, I am in TX during the summer of 2023 and our A/C is broken. Which audio system do you think I am using today?
At least you don’t live in the part of Texas that gets both hot and humid. Oh, wait...
I feel for ya. AC guy is currently at my house doing a minor repair/tuneup.
Looking forward to November.

I agree with you @Erratic Gravy.

As a child in the mid 60s, I was very fortunate to have a small transistor radio. ( My Grandparents owned a radio and TV shop).

It was a tiny device made by Pye. I think that it cost about £6 back in 1966 , so it was a fantastic present!

I listened to Radio Luxemburg and the Pirate Radio stations 'Radio Caroline' and 'Radio London'. This was before the BBC launched radio 1.

The sound quality was not great, but some of the music, which I heard for the first time back then, had a profound effect on me and was the start of my lifelong love of music.

Radio Caroline! Broadcasting from off the coast in international waters! I listened on my Sinclair FM Stereo Tuner with Phase Loop Lock (the first with PLL). Early to mid 70s. The radio only lasted a couple of terms because it was built from a kit and I was schiit at soldering.

In radio news I still fiercely miss John Peel. He shaped my entire musical life (and arguably the rest of life too).
