About wattage and loudness.
I assume most of you audio guys ad gals know this, to get an audible double loudness, you need + 10dB, to achieve that you need 10x the extra wattage from the power amp.
So to sound twice as loud you need to go from 80 watts (Aegir) to 800 watts, if even your speakers can handle that. Most likely not.
Headroom I want headroom (read Tyr), mine are old 330 Watts and I really like the control they have over the drivers. Cranking it up and up without distortion is a fantastic feeling. 75dB is already very loud imho.

Listening to 85db can cause hearing loss if done over an extended period of time, 75 db is certainly considered loud.

Especially within the confines of the typical small rooms where home audio systems reside it's easy to exceed safe levels. Same applies to HP's maybe even more-so.

How does it compare, sound-wise, to the Modi Multibit(which I own). Is there any glare or hardness in the upper mids?
I love my beloved Modi multibit but the 3E is giving it a run for its money. In fact I've turned it off for the first time in a long, long time. I've owned one Sabre DAC and that was a Topping D50s and I sold it after two weeks. I'm a physical media guy so I have an Audiolab 6000CDT transport, an Asgard 3, plus a Modius and Modi 3+, plus the Modi multibit that was getting the most use. My go to headphones are the Focal Clear Pro's. I find the 3E to have no harshness and is smooth from top to bottom. I've always said that the AKM Schiit DACs put me in the audience a few rows back from the stage and Modi multibit puts me on the stage. The 3E does the same thing. Great bass that doesn't get in the way of the mids and mids that let the treble come through smooth and clear. I really love the 3E.

Very cool! A Carolina Blue 'Vette, a board stuffing machine in operation, sheet metal fabrication (feels like home), and even a Tyr Cart (although Asa looks like he could pick up a whole stack of Tyrs without breaking a sweat). Life is complete.
But I do think that metallic red vettes are better..... :)
