You too? Damn things were the size and weight of a suitcase.
It was so cool to upgrade to the Compaq Portable III.
Dropped half the weight, had a '286 CPU. The orange plasma display was so very cool back in the day.
Ugh I remember those as well lol.

In the 1950s, "portable" meant "has a handle on it." Even if it weighed 60 lbs.
That was true right up to the 1980s as indicated by my old Osborne portable PC...

Can you fit it in a large travel trunk?

And if so, can the trunk still be moved without needing a draft horse?

If yes, it's portable.

I think 'luggable' was the word back in the day.

JC
Yep...at least that's what we called them at IBM!

Had one of these I used to 'lug around' to my customer locations

Like a great many other items ranging from medicines to motorcycles with Schiit leading the way audio wise, there is no reason tubes cannot be made in the U.S.A. There is nothing wrong in being proud of your country and its products be you British or Indian.

Or American.

I like Triumph motor bikes and I also like Royal Enfield motor bikes. I own a Harley-Davidson. It is NOT political to like products made in your home land. People make things like audio equipment and motor bikes but then we have some people who make things political. Conflict for them is their rai·son d'ê·tre. Pride in your home land is nothing to be ashamed about.

To a degree, happiness can be bought but only if you can be satisfied with what you purchased. Regardless of its origin. My son likes the fact that Schiit is American. So do I. Buy what you need to be satisfied or else you will never be happy. Where it comes from can matter but what it does for you may matter even more. Enough ramblin'...

I need PLLs 'n' Schiit. Yup. Pretty Little Lights.

Portable is a relative term.
More than one tour I was on carried a baby grand piano.
"I need seven stage hands in the truck to bring in the piano...."
So the piano didn't have a handle? :stuck_out_tongue:
