Hi all. I have an Abyss 1266 Phi TC and heard it recently at a headfi meet with some verryyyy expensive tubes and have been hooked ever since.

Right after the meet, Jason announced the ten tube monster, the Folkvangr. Have they released power specs anywhere and I just missed it?

I emailed Schiit when Jason first announced it and asked if there was a chance that it would power an Abyss (so have at least 5W or so) but was basically told that no info could be given on any hypothetically and not yet confirmed items.

I think in the recent Schiit livestream, Jason confirmed that it was headed to production, so I wonder if emailing them and asking again would give different results. However, I kind of don't want to bother them again because I have a feeling that all will be revealed soon enough. But if anyone has any speculations or info on what the power specs might be, it'd be greatly appreciated.

Do not make more out of some one or some thing until it has proven either worthy or necessary of doing so. My mother was kind enough to school me on a variety of life's trials and dating was something I was terrified of as I was not very good looking and in my youth I was quite frail and that did nothing to add to my courage.

I have found her lesson to hold true for not just dating but in our case, even for purchases. For example, I often want some thing NOW, but must save up for what ever it is that I desire. And during that time, I look into whether or tnot I ruly need what ever it may be or is it simply a matter of want and if it is honestly the latter of the two, I will not mind if the money is better spent elsewhere. I have been saving for a new DAC and Amp. But...And every one has a big but so let us discuss this particularly big but of mine...LOL! My sister and mother have an iPad that is several years old and is to be honest, frustratingly outdated, will not hold a charge for long and is S L O W. I spoke to my niece and she confirmed this and so I took the money I had saved so far for the new DAC and Amp and bought them an new entry level iPad. They will put it to use doing some thing called Apple face time (?) with family including my own daughter, her husband and their little girl.

So the needs and to a lesser degree, wants, of my family far outweighed my own wants. This time, LOL! This along with giving a Grace Digital Grace Link to my daughter and her family have put me back at the beginning of saving up. I will use this time to ensure that I really want the newer equipment. I like to think I do! Not a problem. My mother has the beginnings of Dementia and so anything that can ease her suffering, eases my soul. If I still have one...

So do not worry my friend. You are not alone in stressing yourself over something that should be making you happy. Just cue up some memories with your current equipment and remember that you are listening to your heart and soul's desires and not equipment. Just recall how many times you've played those songs in your mind and how they touched your heart no less than if they were reproduced through the finest equipment made. Some one else wrote the words and music but it was your life's experience that burned them into your memory.

$3K/pair considered cheap for something that could be a future stereophile / absolute sound Class A Recommended Components candidate. If either or both of these review favorably, then no doubt the demand will be high.

No doubt it's a great price. Hard to resist though what the hell I need a Rex of Tyr for when I already have 200 watts of 4 ohm Vidar is going to require some unusally Schiity mental gymnastics.

IIRC, the Folkvangr is designed with 4x 6N6P output tubes for each channel, and a single triode section (half of 6N1P / 6DJ8 etc.) for the voltage gain stage. If the topology is similar to Valhalla 2, expect about 4x the output power (4x300mW = 1200mW) into a 75 ohm load. For Abyss 1266 which is 42 ohms, I would expect a bit more power (perhaps 1.5W to 2.0W) along with higher distortion.

also remember that the Abyss is moderately efficient for a planar (88 dB/mW) and that dB are logarithmic, so 1.0W should still yield an SPL of 118 dB (over twice as loud as a smoke detector).

presumably, when Folkvangr is released it will have a money-back return period (less re-stock fees) if it doesn't work out for you. Perhaps you could become a beta tester since you have a 1266.

If they were very cheap would you liked them just as much?
Or does this follow one of the 3 high end golden rules:
- If it is (very) expensive it sounds great
- If it looks gorgeous it sounds great
- If it is huge in size is sounds great
For all the above rules goes, if not, it will at least impress all visitors when you tell them the price / weight / size.
You could have written you have heard the best sounding tubes you have ever heard. That would have been the right information.
Why does price matter? Does the huge price mean they work much better in every amp design?

Bardstown is very nice, too bad the trip is for a funeral. The entire bourbon trail is a great adventure, small towns with history and a relaxing drive thru the countryside. The bourbon is plentiful and inexpensive (except for the Pappy van Winkle)

I will say this.... I was quite happy with my LRSs until I realized that I cant justify buying Tyr until I have more expensive speakers..... Sounds like I need to start saving for 3.7s
