Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Or buy some new pumps...
We discussed new, sealless, pumps, too. We got back around to the precedent thing: if pumps with mechanical seals weren't suitable for the service in the unit we were discussing, why were they suitable for similar services anywhere else in the facility?

In reality this is not that much of a concern.
Shhhh, posts like that will kill an entire audio cottage industry. Vibration harms every part of the signal chain, from your power plugs to speakers. Heck, I'm sure somebody somewhere is working on speakers which create sound without moving parts of any kind.

My friend Dan Wiggins had a set of plasma-arc drivers that had no moving parts other than air. You just had to get used to the ozone smell.

One of the last CESes I attended with Odeon/Sumo had a set of plasma speakers. They were driven by huge-as-houses Mcintosh monoblocks, with the meters bending the pins at the far right and the room lights dimming, to achieve maybe 85dB listening levels. Room smelled funny, too...by the end of the show, everyone who manned the room was talking like the HMFWIC of the Earth in The Expanse (like they'd been smoking 6 packs of cigarettes a day for 30 years or so). So yeah, no plasma speakers for me.

Sorry to be scarce, it's crazy around here...still completely nutty, but I hope January will be better. We'll see.

Merry Christmas to all the Schiitheads and to the Schiit Team in Cali and soon to be Texas!!

Soon to be our palatial abode (LOL) in Corpus Christi. We have a flagpole! And additional land to build on.

And, because we love you/I am insane, here's a peek at Lokiest (whatever we call it, it won't be that. At least I don't think so.)

No, we won't use those knobs. They will be proper machined knobs.

And yeah, those are relay potentiometers (very different than a relay ladder attenuator) and custom 80% nickel-core inductors.

I have err had a Pi 3 with Moode and wasn't very happy with the performance, it took a little over a day to index under 2000 tracks, after that it just wasn't a happy experience. I tried the Pi 4 because I wanted something more compact and that I could access easily over the network and other than the network issues when the internet flakes it's been pretty solid. I'd definitely give the Pi 4 a try...

Hmmm, I didn't even think about Gen 5 being the same as an EITR, I don't even know which version mine has :xf_eek:
Most of us (I believe) use RPi as an endpoint rather than as the main workhorse. Even with a Pi4, I'd expect it to be stretched to run a full on audio server.

Cheers

LOL, we're actually installing security/storm shutters as part of the buildout. The parking lot is a total mess, too (I mean, like it might swallow a Smart/Fit/Bolt), so that's getting redone as well. And a couple of other tweaks. It'll be our first building with a defined production flow, and a panopticon production office (not evil, just kinda the way it is built.)

Nice Alps pots. Motor driven versions? -edit- Duh, yes they are. And now the remote makes sense. INTERESTING.

Yep! Though the pots aren't part of the equation at all, the relays and resistors do the potentiometer action. That was a monumental pain in the rear end. For the technophiles, there are 15 positions on either side of center for you to use--and actually a true center, defined by 0.1% resistors, not a potentiometer.

And remote control. With 3 presets. Press preset button--clicky clacky clicky clacky and all the knobs spin. So at least in one way it will be better than the Audio Palette. Neat!

Looking good Jason! Any update on the middle Loki?

Making a S.W.A.G. by the board size, this will be a Mjolnir/Gungnir size case?
