I've auditioned several very high dollar DACs and found all of them wanting. Several discs in my collection I have found containing music in them that remains unheard on any DAC but Yggdrasil. Any DAC (or other bit of kit) that does not resolve ALL of the data is a non player. I have demonstrated this at a couple of 'HiEnd' salons much to the dismay of the sales staff. Buyers though, were very interested.

And NO, I will not divulge the titles. But rest assured there are others out there.

From the Horses Mouth When trying to justify Why MQA "Origami" is feasible. They tell you that most recordings never Achieve more than 16 Bit Dynamic range and that bits 19 - 24 carry no useful info. So Someone there Obviously has a Grasp on things But if this Argument is used to try to Validate MQA, How does a Rep from Sphile not use the same Argument to explain why the 4 x 20 Bit DAC used in the Yggy is not going Hurt Sound quality in the least.  At Least this was not from the Other End of the Horse Like that Post.

"Principally because of the combination of environmental noise and microphone self-noise (plus tape noise with analogue masters), very few recordings achieve let alone exceed 16-bit dynamic range. Add to this the fact that we can hear signals within noise only to about 10dB below the noise level (see olive curve in Figure 21) and it follows that bits 19 to 24 carry no useful information."

Edit seems like my image does not work. So I added the text.

I just confirmed an ad pick-up (of the "Reset" ad) with Stereophile yesterday, but I'm going to see if I can change it to this artwork:

I'm also getting Mike an "Obsolete" shirt, if he'll wear it.

If he's anything like me he'll always take and wear a free t-shirt. Give 'em hell! They deserve it.

Wow. Just wow. "Obsolete" is a rough term. Just how many mega buck components that Sphile reviews are packed with "obsolete" parts and designs....? Probably 80%.

Perhaps tubes are obsolete as well.........................................

Ah hell, I totally missed this.

Discrete design: obsolete.
Tubes: obsolete:
Class AB amps: obsolete.
Real switches, no software UI: obsolete.
Multibit DACs: obsolete.

Hell, everything we do is obsolete!

I love it.
