Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

You'll eat those words within 10 years.  Guaranteed.

Wouldn't surprise me a bit. Sooner or later there will come a point when one atom can hold one bit of data, and that may be the upper lower limit of miniaturization. Of course by then all our personal gear (sound, commo and otherwise) will be bio-implants anyway so portability won't be an issue. I was just hoping for a DAP that would outclass the AK380 but be the size of a Fulla, and finding it under the tree this Christmas. Cue Aerosmith...

Technically there is already Audio over Ethernet: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audio_over_Ethernet

Interestingly, "AoE is intended for high-fidelity, low-latency professional audio..." and "Most AoE systems use proprietary protocol(s)..."

There have been systems for multi-channel for audio distribution (snakes, headphone mixing systems, etc.), but nothing for high bit-rate and something designed with high-fidelity in mind.

I know that, which is why I said something aimed to the consumer.

High bitrate? Even the uncompressed 192KHz/32bit PCM takes only a fraction of bandwidth available over typical 1Gbps Ethernet link. Even with whatever proprietary protocol overhead. It's not 4K video we're talking about.

im going to assume its something that sits in the same place as the wyrd does.
completly transforms the sound of usb as is was not intended for audio and many people beleive it sounds the worst of the connections, a link between pc and dac.

i mean look at the amount of people that are doing something like 2x jitterbugs > cable > usb regen >cable > ifi iusb > cable > purifier. just to get a cleaner better sound. it ends up looking like a snake thats been eating big wooden blocks lol

i could be wrong but something that goes before dac says FU windows suplys true bitperfect and fixes all of usb problems with added goodies and sounds better than the rest.

I present Mike's post on USB and Windoze.

As well as Jason's post on USB and Wnidoze.

And I am just speculating. Only people at Schiit knows and they will release it when it's ready. It could be as @Deftone said and just a crazy Wyrd type device that is as good as S/PDIF or AES/EBU.

Thanks for the link, I didn't know about this thread before - looking forward to reading it

Hey all,

I'll have a new chapter for you in a couple of days...at which time the delay will make complete sense.

All the best,
Jason

Ohhh the suspense...... Jason, really. Nasty trick - but it works. At least for me.

On Windoze by Professor Mike and Sir Jason,

Phew!

I never realized nor have I ever read anything like these two's appraisal of USB implications.

I've been to Meets where I was "not impressed" with various highly touted gear, I never gave a thought that the Toshiba or whatever Windoze machine was behind the lackluster performances.

I own a modest iMac - Asgard2 - Sennheiser HD580 that deliver thrilling musical renditions ( sometimes addictive ).  At headphone Meets, various Gear, getting rave reviews, haven't seemed to muster my levels of performance standard, leaving me puzzled.

No wonder folks are Seriel Buyiing Gear: they're trying to get that "Reviewers" performance (but can't quite get there).  Hmm, I never gave a thought to them running "not so good front-ends" with the culprit being their O/S.

This sheds a whole new light on things.

Of course, coming from Schiit, this concept carries significant weight.

I read Mike Moffat's post on USB and Windoze and thought it an elegant explanation (that coming from me would've sounded like an outrageous Rant).  Sir Jason piling-on & kinda doubling-down adds a significant depth to the realizations, these are two of the highest Integrety people in the World of consumer Audio.  ( I wonder if other outfits secretly agree? but are afraid to step foreword with their two cents )

Thank you for this explanation, it makes following your Company all the more worthwhile.

There hasn't been a hi-fi audio company that had so much integrity and in sync with their customers before. And then they pretty much cut out the middle-man of the hi-fi retail store, so I think other outfits simply don't know how to respond. They are stuck in an older and aging model.
