Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Well since I give credit where credit is due I think you mumbled something about Melz once so I looked into them.🤪 I am not sure you had heard one then so I tried to fix that later. No doubt your memory is different but I am telling this story.😉
My memory is the same. I'd heard mention of them when *I* mentioned them, but even back then they were a bit pricey for an unknown. I was happy to let you be the guinea pig. But what I didn't anticipate is that you would subsequently buy up the world's remaining supply and drive prices into the stratosphere. Lesson learned. 🤣 :stuck_out_tongue:

Philips made us start listening to Russian tubes.

And once we started looking there, lo and behold some tremendously good sounding tubes were discovered, like the Melz 1578. I'd say Fotons too, but don't want to get too carried away.
i googled Melz 1578... LOL. yikes that pricey now.

I believe in drinking deeply of anything I enjoy, I bought every variation I could find, it was a no-brainer for me.😄

OMG you are making sense or I am a bit buttered from enjoying some fine bourbon. ( buttered is my favorite term for feeling the effects of a couple drinks)😛

My collection is worth under $20,000 last I checked. Four years ago a fraction of that.😉

Well, I finally dug out my Telefunken smooth plate 12AU7s to give them a try on the Freya N. I'll report back if they are as good to these old ears as they are to yours. 😄

Maybe what five years or less. It has always been my honor to know him and present him with most anything I would build for myself. I know few others with his ability to hear differences in tubes. I have to work at it but Bill is the real deal.

We won't be seeing Bill for a while after this. His head won't be fitting into this forum for a bit. 🙄

Well, so far they're pretty Telefunken good. 😄

More time is needed before I can rank them to the others in my collection.

I own a lot of 12AU7’s I will have to look and see if I own Telefunkens. One of my amps uses 6 so I have a decent collection.

Now this I will be interested in. If... well, when, the Stjarna kicks my Hagerman Trumpet MC out I will have some really nice 12AU7's to use, including what you mentioned along with some really nice Brimars, Mullards, and Amperex medicals from Upscale.
