Thanks for the question, I'm heading to Austin for work Wednesday, staying in same area and can now use these responses also! Alas would still prefer central/eastern NC q though.

Jimmy's in Malvern is ok-ish, if you're out that way (just a little past KoP); the brisket is good. Can't remember the last time I had good BBQ other than the bark-y ribs I made for the kids (and lost the recipe ).
People, please feel for us as all we got is Mission BBQ (good company, so-so bbq).
(the company I work for is Austin-based. Someday I may be "coerced" into attending a corporate event.)
Ex-Carolinian. They kicked me out. And then @sam6550a kicked me out of Georgia. So with apologies in advance, I'll shortly be about 2 hours away from you in a place named (apparently fittingly) the same as a nuclear bomb that's gone missing.
Took me a second bc for some reason Tybee was stuck in my head and that made no sense. So, I drew a 2 hour radius in my mind-map and saw Tulsa then I thought, Ah, Eureka!
Broken Arrow!
It's like a sister city to Austin kinda. or a kindred heart city.
When I first moved to Fayetteville (from Austin) I kept running into people I knew from down there.
So many folks from Fayetteville down in Austin, too. Pretty cool connection between the two-
Obviously the Longhorn vs Razorback thing goes back over a century as well.
Im sorry, bro. i deliberately didnt post the pic in the thread; gotta click the link for that.
I will say the most impressive thing was the greens. Not that the ribs werent just as good as Memphis ribs always are, but, not everybody does perfect turnip greens.
These were slap-yo-mama-good.
Any opera fans on here who also have an opinion on what they think is the best Wagner Ring Cycle recording? Looking for full cycles, not individual operas.
I've got the old vinyl box sets of the Solti cycle and have worked my way through a bit of that but am always curious what other people like. Are there any modern cycles that are well regarded?
Currently browsing my way through a selection of gins produced at my distillery.
I recently treated myself to the Naxos recordings of the Ring conducted by Jaap van Zweden. I like this Ring a lot. Another very well regarded recording is by Karl Böhm, also Karajan. Here's a link to a BBC appraisal of current Ring recordings.
