Have both the HiFiMan Edition X & Sundara and the AKG 702.

The HiFiMan Edition X pairs nicely with a Mjolnir 2; the Sundara pairs well with Magni/Piety?Vali 2+ stack. Magni 3+ and Magni+ versions win here with Piety close.
The Sundara were wonderful out of Mjolnir 2, however the Edition X now has that place.
The Edition X plays nice with the Magni/Piety?Vali stack and scales up to the Mjolnir 2 better than the Sundara.

The AKG 702 I purchased to complete the way back trinity - Sennheiser 600/650, Beyerdynamic DT990/880 600 ohm and AKG 701(702).
I never found an amp paring or music that the AKG did better than the others. They hung around mostly unused. Piety came along and after a test run of phones I found the 702 enjoyable powered by it. Maybe I changed or maybe I found their thing; either way they now get some use. Would like to try them out of a Jotunheim 2. I have a Jotunheim OG and the Piety wins.

All above is my music, my gear and importantly my mood/health/condition/ears.

PS - The XS were a HiFiMan repair upgrade offer I could not refuse. Considering Arya.

I love my Sundara with my Asgard/Freya stack. I found them to be overpowering in a wall-of-sound way with the Piety. I'll have to try them with that amp again when I get back home in early November. My HD650's and Thieaudio Ghosts are, for my ears, perfect mates to the Piety/Magni 3+/Vali 2++. To try something different, I pulled the trigger a few minutes ago on the AKG 712's. If I don't like them, back they go and the Arya's will be purchased. I've also eyed the Edition XS. I love my Sundara so much that the Arya went on my wish-list a few months ago.

Cheers,

- Craig

My Sundara's pair well with my Magni 3+ and Heresy. My 6XX's sing with my Vali 2++ and my K702's do fine with both SS and tube. Good choices all around.

Pi2AES- Lite Touch Streamer Enclosure.

I use this with Ropieee. Finally finished this. Almost 20 hours of printing on the. Bambu Labs P1P printer. Have to say no real engineering used to design anything. Went by looks and feel. So be kind. Its was a fun exercise to learn printing and fusion 360.

I have already made a short version eliminating about 90mm of dead space in the center. I like the look of what I printed although Carbon Black isn't even close to my other black components.

Limited Bom:
Adafruit Flex Cable for Raspberry Pi Camera or Display - 300mm / 12"

(4) M2.5 flat head screws 7mm length (got them at my local hardware store)

(4) Computer screws that I had around I'll figure out what they are and post them. I sized the holes for the top to accept them. I know important part.

(1) right angle micro USB cable to power the Pi Display. Left would have been better the way I have the display in the enclosure.

Nice!

Also, nothing implied but it's kind of fun scrolling thru your pics and ending up with lipstick on a pig after it wraps around 🤪

Very nice. I'd buy one. ;)

You can reframe/rebrand/relaunch/repackage MQA 'till the cows come home, but at the end of the day it's still a lossy, proprietary codec that doesn't solve any problems that haven't already been solved with MP3/4, AAC, or FLAC.

Best of luck to Lenbrook, though. My best guess is that they'll use the technology under a different name as wireless audio protocol between their nodes and speakers. After nearly half a year of no takers, picking up the MQA patents was probably cheaper at this point than a decade of licensing fees for other proprietary high-quality wireless codecs would cost. Especially if they somehow manage to convince Tidal to keep licensing it, which I have my doubts about.
There are some fascinating non audio applications to MQA that are not widely publicised - also I think MQA is still a spare piece in the audio jigsaw and we cant see where it fits - the rational behind it was sound enough ( no pun intended ) and I also know that Bob Stuart is absolutely not the character that the MQA naysayers smear him with . So we can sit back and watch what happens -

This was my guess as well. If that's the case, hopefully it won't be proprietary to Lenbrook devices (or they'll at least license the tech for a reasonable fee)

I saw that article as well. I don't believe Darko is correct but stranger things have happened.
For those who dislike Darko and don't want to click the link, he's guessing Lenbrook is going to start their own streaming service.
Thanks for sparing me from Darko @Roy G. Biv

Tubes for Freya+
What's the general consensus for a "step up" tube from the default JJ tubes in the Freya+. Not looking to spend too much just interested in something that's different enough to hear the change. Maybe it's good or bad to my ears, but curious as to what changes I might see hear.

I'm pretty sure that we know where it fits.

If you haven't perused this topic, you'll find plenty of good ideas and varying opinons here:
https://www.head-fi.org/threads/schiit-freya-impressions-and-tube-rolling-thread.832177/

Much of the most recent discussion is around the N since that's the current bargain tube preamp. But you'll see lots of recommendations for the +.

FWIW, I like some of the Chinese 6SN7 tubes (Linlai, Shuguang, etc.) in my +. None of them are dirt cheap, but there are affordable options that are much better sonically than the JJs. Also consider picking up a pair (or quad) of LISSTs, which impart their own sound signature, and that will be a hedge against Tubeaggedon, should that ever come to pass.

MQA? FTN!

The following words are different ways of saying the same thing:
crap
poop
crap
chocolate turdles
BM
cow patty
dung
excrement
Dung Beetle Buffet
Doodie
Baby Rooooth
MQA
Hollyweird Ham Sammich
feces
Fly Pie

Because a turd by any other name will still smell like a turd. And who knows turds better than an audio turdle? This quote from a “Master Engineer” is turgid with textbook turdwords so loved by the Cult of the frAudiophile.

“For 2L, using MQA has allowed us to enhance the experience of our recordings, beyond the raw capture, with increased access to sonic details, transparency and lower listening fatigue.”

As the immortal Bugs Bunny would say, “What a maroon!”
“…beyond the raw capture”. More raw CRAPture.

I don't care if MQA exists or does not exist. I just know it was not for me and I will be voting with my $$. I saw no value in its prior iteration, but if the IP allows for a reincarnation where I think it adds value to me and my listening experience, then I am certainly open to reconsidering my position.
