Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Personal opinions (maybe worthless)

Both too big for a desk
Ragnarok 2 wins if any speakers are involved
Mjolnir 3 sharper, more precise, more dynamic
Ragnarok 2 warmer, mellower, more relaxed

Again, this is personal opinion. Probably BS.
And here I thought that I wanted a Mjolnir 3. Maybe what I really want has been there all this time... I don't think I've listened to a Ragnarok 2 with headphones, but now I need to.

In my experience, the bigger the stuff that makes up the guts of audio equipment, the bigger the sound itself. I have no way of proving it scientifically, but no portable DAC/amp sounds as big and as present as say, my Schiit Asgard.

I also have mic preamps, and the external ones like the Black Lion Audio Auteur MkII
also sound bigger and more present than the small mic preamps inside my audio interfaces.

In my electronics ignorance, it feels to me that the bigger the electrical path, the bigger the signal sounds. It's why discrete stuff with big components tend to have that weighty, expansive sound.

Yep. Go big or go home! Lol.

@Jason Stoddard - Any chance we (Freya S owners) could still have access to the Freya S pages/photos (now removed from the site)?

I am constantly surprised in our "always online" world these days how few people know that nothing on the internet (more or less) once put there is lost. I refer you to the URL wayback.archive.org where you can input any URL you like (say schiit.com) and then pick from the many dates where the web site was archived and view the pages as they existed at that time. So, to find the information on the Freya S, you just pick a date where the Freya S was being sold, click the Products page, select Freya S and you will have access to the then existing product page for Freya S including the pictures and downloads. I just tried it and it is all there!

This has been a public service announcement (but unlike The Clash) without GUITARS!

That's a new one. I've read that a lot of people erroneously believe that more wpc sounds better but never something larger sounds better. I guess a Magni won't sound that good seeing as it's diminutive.

Nice thanks! Yeah we know that websites are ephemeral, like a lot of stuff these days.

No one said something larger sounds better. I certainly did not. What you wrote has nothing to do with what I wrote.

What types tubes has the FOLKVANGR™; and how many of each? I's stumped on sources for NOS 7025A high-µ twin triodes and 7581A beam power tubes, stock on pre-CBS Fender® musical-instrument amplifiers; even the engineers at the current Fender Musical Instrument Company are forced to 12AT7A and 12AX7A twin triodes and 6L6GCA beam power tubes.

On the cusp of Mjolnir 3's arrival...

...I've been listening a lot to my OG Jotunheim, driving the Senn HD820s. These 'phones are evolving in a very linear fashion, and with about 200 hours on them, they are as neutral as anything I've ever heard. It's so weird, after years of owning open-backed Sennheiser headphones, to listen analytically to the closed-back 820s. The bass is, well... shocking at times. <g>

Upstairs (office) source is the Qobuz Windows client, with the (infamous) Canon USB-A to USB-B cable between my Lenovo P340 i9/64GB workstation and Jot's True Multibit card. And I'm generally floored, it just sounds sooo good that it's hard to explain. Low gain, volume at nine-'o-clock, through the Senn-supplied balanced cable (4.4mm adaptor in Jot's 4-pin DIN connector). Not loud, at all, because I value my hearing... but the clarity and pacing of the music is just grin-inducing, at an absolute minimum...

Based on @Timster and @GumbyDammit223 's comments regarding schiity SQ, I can say that even though Qobuz streams generally sound phenomenal, a lot of recorded music sounds like total crap. But there are many, many exceptions - in no particular order, and CERTAINLY not in playlist order (unless you like to shock people):

Sara K. - "Stop Those Bells" - https://open.qobuz.com/track/151838629
Lauren Daigle - "Thank God I Do" - https://open.qobuz.com/track/200785519 <<<- she's an Angel

It has 2 of the 6N1P tubes in the driver stage. And 8 of 6N6P tubes in the power stage.

https://www.schiit.com/products/tubes
Then select the Folkvangr

Or check out
https://valvesnmore.com/?product_cat=all-folkvangr-tube-packages

And page 3 of the manual states :
  1. Carefully insert the replacement tubes:replace tubes with the same types (short = 6N1P, tall = 6N6P.) Align the pins to the sockets and press down gently until the tubes are seated. You may also "roll" the 6N1Ps for 6DJ8, 6BZ7, 6922, ECC88, or similar tubes.

When someone has the MJ3 at operating temperature please take a FLIR picture. Curious as to how "hot" hot is.

Thinking my OG Silver Gumby -> MJ3 -> Eta Mini C is my end game. Unless the Mini C is a bad match for the MJ3?

Personally, I'd like a half-width Kara. Would love to make a Bifrost/Half-Kara/Gjallarhorn stack, in silver. I even have some silver T+A mini speakers to complete the system.

I have no way of taking a FLIR picture, but mine will be here by Wednesday. I'll hit you with a reading with an infrared thermometer gun.
