Stevie Wonder and Billie Holiday reminds me of Mom and 40's Swing of Dad (21 year difference).

The Schiit you forget to say until it's too late.

Thanks for the kind note. My parents started handing over key aspect of their LP collection over the last few years. Here are 2 of my favorites. They saw Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass on the Seattle Waterfront at the Edgewater Hotel in the 60"s and sat right in front of the stage before he hit it big. Much appreciated!
Speaking of Mr A; it's popular to bash his music nowadays, but I was a big fan in the day - thanks to my father.

We recently watched "The Wrecking Crew" on one of the streamers (Netflix or Prime) and it was a fascinating look back at the session musicians who made so many of the big hits of the day. The connection, HA was part of the crew before making it big.

Another similar documentary is Hired Gun.

From the description on IMDB ...
"A documentary film about session and touring musicians that are hired by well established and famous bands and artists like Metallica, KISS, and Billy Joel. These hired guns may not be household names, but are still masters of their craft."

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4026034/

Worth watching.

That is indeed a fascinating story. The Wrecking Crew was in LA so backed the Hollywood crowd on movie scores, too. I first discovered the story when I ran across the bassist Carol Kaye, who was in the Crew and played on numerous albums, including the Cannonball Adderley album "Big Man - The Legend of John Henry." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carol_Kaye_discography

There was a similar group in Nashville, called the Nashville A-Team, who backed country singers in studio. My co-worker's uncle was a member of the A-Team ... his name was Grady Martin. When he got too old for session work, which is a bitch, Grady went on the road playing guitar for 10-years with Willie Nelson. Here is a picture of Grady (far left) at the Grand Ole Opry. On the fiddle is "Fiddlin' Chubby Wise."

Hey all,

I'm heading out today for TheShow in Costa Mesa, and I'll be there on Saturday and Sunday morning, if anyone's interested in coming by.

https://www.theshownow.com/

The room opens today at noon. We have a simple system I always wanted to do: Syn, JBL 305s (x 5), and a Rhythmik 12L sub. For $1773 retail, it kills most surround systems. We also brought Urd and a Bifrost 2 for fun. And a screen. So we can do music (streaming or CD), or movies...your choice.

I hope to see you there!

All the best,
Jason

Here's my entry for the pairing of the week, Jot2 + Gjallarhorn make an excellent team in my little office desktop system, driving Triangle Borea BR03 speakers. I've been listening to this rig for about six weeks now, and strongly recommend it.
We almost brought the Triangles and Gjallarhorns to Costa Mesa. In the end, I decided to go reallllllllll simple.

Jason,
How are you going to connect the JBL's (305P MkII?) to Syn? It looks like the only inputs on the monitor are balanced.
I ask because I have similar speakers I want to use with Syn. Thanks!

Snake Oil makes fantastic interconnects. The build quality rivals Schiit's, the prices are arguably too low, and they don't even attempt to up-sell you with some pseudoscientific bullshittery.
Bought my first pair of interconnects from them because I appreciate their humor (i.e. the name) and stuck with them ever since because the price to value ratio that especially their Taipan cables offer simply can't be beat.
Snake Oil is the Schiit of interconnects.

Honorable mention: Hart Audio Cables, because they are for headphone cables what Snake Oil is for interconnects. Their off-the-shelf stuff is solid and that interchangeable interconnect idea is nifty, but their custom shop is where they truly shine: The amount of options they offer boggles the mind, the turnaround is quick, and the craftsmanship is sublime.

And as a neat little bonus, both companies are small, direct-sale American businesses, owned and operated by a bunch of actual humans who obviously love what they do.
