Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Just got myself one of these little doodads -( a product that Schiit may like to think about producing ? ) hopefully may be of some interest to readers of this forum , its to use on my I phone and Mac running apple music ( hi res lossless ) - let you have my full impression after Easter , but initially -

1) it absolutely tiny - may be a good thing
2) feels very dainty - may not be a good thing
3) adapters for usb and lightning supplied - a very good thing , but a very tight fit
4) scanning electron microscope req to read supplied leaflet - I kid you not !!
5) appears that firmware updates are a tad fussy to instal
6) costs under £60.00
7) MQA too ! ( if I use MQA will I be excommunicated from the forum ? )

sound is typical ESS dac - a little mellifluous but a big improvement on i phone's own dac , perhaps lacks a bit of oomph but we will see !!go-link-main-1024x675.jpg

For anyone wondering why I'm burning time this evening responding to every little thing, our flight was delayed, so we're back at home another day. This beats screaming at the incompetence of airlines.

I was surprised indeed.

I feel like this was already mentioned (it was mentioned 29 minutes into the Schiit livestream), but the Syn doesn’t have headphone surround.

Given that, anyone able to explain how the headphone effect differs from a simple crossfeed with an adjustment dial to make it more mono? Genuine question I don’t know the answer to.
With headphones, the width and presence knobs allow you to both widen and narrow the soundstage. Think going from dress circle in a concert hall to right on stage. I’ve never had crossfeed do this before. The Mojo 2 and Roon cross feed only narrow the stage. Jason mentioned using the width on the wider setting for movies and the narrow for music (more traditional crossfeed).

The presence is interesting. It is most useful with vocal tracks. You can dial the performer closer or further away. Again, like being 40 rows back or right in performers face. It’s less obvious with classical, but does bring in the center instruments closer (winds, higher brass, etc…).

Hope this clarifies. It’s not a spatializer, but it does do a pretty awesome job creating a 3D audio experience. For $400, it’s worth a try. I’m using it 100% for music right now. I’ll try movies later.

Ev, was just thinking that a Syn, plus some of the Drop BMR1 desktop powered speakers would be a great little setup. Would Drop consider selling a single one for the center channel? Or a 5 pack?

Link below showing what they look like:

@bevanc ... I followed the link. If my ~20 year old nephew or niece ever show interest in audio, I might send them a SYN with the 2 pairs of BMR1. Starving-student audio?

(((I edited out the price & brand name to respect @Jason Stoddard 's thread ToS))). When I eventually pick up an odd little SYN for my nook, I can see how well they perform with my $$$ rig.

The car or the guy's attire?

** The Ghia was an atrocity. Fortunately the one pictured does not have the partial vinyl roof.
